Thank you for returning, as we learn what will happen to us after the rapture has occurred. In Part One, we discussed:

The Rapture

Bodies Changed

Judgment Seat of Christ

Receive Rewards and Crowns

Marriage of the Lamb

Marriage Supper of the Lamb

Today, our focus will be on the following events that come next:

We will Return with Jesus for His Second Coming

Jesus Defeats Evil – The Battle of Armageddon

The Antichrist and False Prophet Thrown in the Lake of Fire

Jesus Stands Upon the Mount of Olives

Satan is Bound for 1,000 years

Most of us have been focused upon the rapture, and simply really don’t have a desire to know what happens to us next. We will not have to endure the Tribulation Period on earth, and that has satisfied our curiosity. But for those who want to know more, this series is for you.

We return with Jesus at His Second Coming

At the end of the 7-year Tribulation Period, Jesus Christ will return to the earth in what is known by many as the Second Coming. An important point here: Jesus is coming to defeat evil, and He is coming with a “vengeance.”

God has determined that the time for allowing evil to reign upon the earth has come to an end. His patience and mercy have given way to His righteous judgment, and the hour has arrived for Him to pour out His wrath upon a wicked and unrepentant world.

Revelation 19:11–14 describes heaven opening and Jesus coming on a white horse.

Verse 14 says:

“And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.”

Jesus is coming with His armies. Do you know who those armies are?

Remember two things here. The rapture scripture teaches us that we will “forever be with the Lord.”  We’ve also just learned that the armies that come with Jesus will be “arrayed in fine linen, clean and white.”

So, from the time of the rapture, wherever Jesus goes, we who are raptured will go with Him.

Think of this. When Jesus comes to the earth to defeat evil, we will be right there with Him. Having a front row seat to this historical event is awe producing for me. Seeing Justice served from our leader and King. It is very humbling to even think about what an honor that will be for me to witness, to say the least.

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ will be one of the most dramatic events in all of human history. When Jesus came the first time, He came as the Lamb of God, offering Himself as a sacrifice for our sins.

But when He returns the second time, He will come as the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!

He will not return to be mocked, beaten, or crucified. He will return in power and great glory to judge wickedness, defeat His enemies, and establish His righteous kingdom.

Let’s walk through this event in the order commonly taught in the pre-tribulation, premillennial understanding of Bible prophecy, using the King James Bible.

1. The heavens open, and Jesus appears!

Revelation 19:11–12 (KJV)

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.”

Imagine the scene John describes.

The heavens open, and Jesus Christ appears riding a white horse.

His eyes are like flames of fire, representing His penetrating judgment.

Upon His head are many crowns, showing His supreme authority.

He is called Faithful and True because every promise He has made will be fulfilled.

This is not the humble entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey. This is the victorious return of the rightful King.

2. His robe is dipped in blood

Revelation 19:13 (KJV)

“And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.”

This is a powerful description.

Some interpret the blood as representing Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Others connect it with the judgment of His enemies, especially in light of Isaiah 63:1–6.

“Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?”

“I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.”

“For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.”

“And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.”

“And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.”

The passage emphasizes that Jesus is coming as the righteous Judge.

This is the same Jesus described in John 1:1 and John 1:14.

The eternal Son of God who became flesh is now returning in glory.

3. The armies of heaven follow Him

Revelation 19:14 (KJV)

“And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.”

Now think about this in connection with the Rapture.

In the pre-tribulation understanding, the Church has already been caught up to heaven, received glorified bodies, and appeared before the Judgment Seat of Christ.

Many prophecy teachers believe we will be among those returning with Jesus!

Why?

Because Revelation 19:8 describes the bride of Christ as clothed in fine linen, clean and white.

Jude 14 also says:

“Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,“

However, the Bible does not explicitly identify every member of the heavenly armies. Angels are also associated with Christ’s return (Matthew 25:31).

4. Jesus stands upon the Mount of Olives

Now we come to an extraordinary prophecy from the Old Testament.

Zechariah 14:3–4 (KJV)

“Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.”

This is remarkable!

The Mount of Olives is the place from which Jesus ascended into heaven.

In Acts 1:11, the angels told His disciples:

“This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

When Jesus Christ returns to earth at His Second Coming, His feet will stand upon the Mount of Olives, just east of Jerusalem. According to Zechariah 14:4 (KJV), the mountain will split in two, creating a great valley running from east to west.

One half of the mountain will move northward, and the other half will move southward. This will be a tremendous supernatural event, demonstrating the power and glory of Jesus Christ as He returns to deliver Jerusalem and defeat His enemies.

As His feet stand upon the Mount of Olives, the mountain will split apart, creating a great valley. Zechariah 14:5 indicates that people will flee through this newly formed valley, providing a way of escape during this terrible conflict.

5. Every eye will see Him

Revelation 1:7 (KJV)

“Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”

His return will not be secret.

It will be a glorious revelation of His power.

Jesus Himself declared in Matthew 24:30:

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

Imagine the terror of those who have rejected Him and the joy of those who have longed for His appearing.

6. The armies of the world gather against Him

Revelation 19:19 (KJV)

“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.”

Nations armies will gather together in the final showdown in an event known in scripture as the battle of Armageddon.

Revelation 16:16 says:

“And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”

The Antichrist, called the beast in Revelation, will lead a rebellion against God.

The name Armageddon is commonly understood to mean Mount of Megiddo.

Megiddo overlooks the Valley of Jezreel, a broad plain in northern Israel that has witnessed numerous military conflicts throughout history. This is a vast area which will be filled by millions of earthly warriors under the guidance of the antichrist.

The nations’ armies will all gather here for war.

During the final days of the Great Tribulation, the sixth angel will pour out the sixth vial of God’s wrath upon the great Euphrates River, causing its waters to dry up completely. Revelation 16:12 (KJV) declares,

“And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.”

This extraordinary act of God will remove a major natural barrier, preparing the way for powerful armies from the east to advance toward the Middle East.

At the same time, Satan, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet will send forth demonic spirits performing deceptive miracles to persuade the kings of the earth to gather their armies for the great battle of Armageddon.

As the nation’s gather for war, they will unknowingly be preparing for their ultimate defeat at the hands of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Isn’t this remarkable for us to know? This has been God’s plan that He has revealed to His prophets thousands of years ago. It has been available for all mankind to know, yet many will avoid what was written, and be so involved in hate that they will be led to battle, and their ultimate demise.

Satan’s attempt to oppose Almighty God will end in complete defeat, demonstrating that no earthly kingdom or military force can stand against the Lord Jesus Christ.

But there is something striking about John’s account.

Revelation never describes a long, evenly matched battle between Jesus and the Antichrist. This battle will be over in a short period of time.

7. Jesus destroys His enemies with the sword of His mouth

Revelation 19:15–16 (KJV)

“And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Notice where the sword comes from. His mouth!

This is generally understood as a symbol of the irresistible power of His word and judgment.

Jesus does not need earthly weapons to defeat the armies gathered against Him.

He is the Creator of all things, and His authority is absolute.

Isaiah 11:4 says:

“And he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.”

The same Lord who spoke creation into existence will defeat evil by His sovereign power.

8. Jesus defeats the remaining armies

Revelation 19:19–21

This is perhaps the most important passage describing Christ’s victory at Armageddon.

19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

This is a solemn passage.

It describes the judgment of those who have gathered in rebellion against Christ.

The Second Coming is a day of deliverance for God’s people, but also a day of judgment for those who oppose Him.

9. The Antichrist and False Prophet are thrown into the lake of fire

Let’s return to Revelation 19:20 (KJV)

“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

Think about this.

The Antichrist will have exercised tremendous power on earth. He will have deceived multitudes and opposed God. But when Jesus returns, the Antichrist’s power comes to an end. The beast and false prophet are seized and cast alive into the lake of fire.

God’s justice and holiness are central to this event.

10. Satan is bound for 1,000 years

After Christ’s victory, Revelation describes another major event.

Revelation 20:1–3 (KJV)

“And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”

Satan is imprisoned for a thousand years.

The antichrist and false prophet are NOT satan himself. They are empowered by satan. This is a very important distinction. The false prophet and the antichrist are cast into the lake of fire, NOT satan. Rather, he is imprisoned for a thousand years

FigureRole
Satan (the Dragon)The source of evil power and deception
Antichrist (the Beast)The earthly ruler who demands worship
False Prophet (Second Beast)The religious deceiver who directs worship toward the Antichrist

Only after the Millennium and his final rebellion is Satan cast into the lake of fire, (Revelation 20:10).
