As one who is emersed in the prayerful study of God’s “End-Times” Revelations to His Servants the Prophets, I can make one very solid claim… “God NEVER gets it wrong, people do!”
The Bible gives us several important reasons why God has revealed end-times prophecy. God did not give us prophecy simply to satisfy our curiosity about the future. He gave it to prepare us spiritually, strengthen our faith, protect us from deception, and remind us that His promises will be fulfilled.
End Times Prophecy is not all about predicting the correct date of the Rapture. In fact, predicting this date, as I have personally learned, is not something that God wants us to do at all.
I have always found great satisfaction in trying to “solve complex issues.” To actually glean every bit of information given, and then, placing all of the pieces of the puzzle together to generate additional information leading to the “intended” conclusion.
This strategy has served me well throughout my lifetime: in business as well as personal challenges. However, there is one piece of the prophetic end times “puzzle” that I have not given serious consideration to.
There are certain things that belong only to God, and He desires to keep to Himself, regardless of how much time a person dedicates towards the pursuit of understanding. The Rapture Date is this specific topic that I speak of.
For many, end times prophecy has come down to only one thing…The Rapture. This is somewhat understandable, for those who study end times prophecy know that once the rapture occurs, those is Christ will be forever with the Lord. None of the additional prophecies really involve us, for we will not be here on Earth.
The Rapture has been identified as the “next step” in all of end times prophecy. Therefore, most of our attention and focus has been on anticipating this glorious event.
From the perspective of the “scoffers.” When a rapture date comes and goes, this gives their foundation of unbelief additional fuel to perpetuate. They further discount any additional end times prophecy, because in their mind, none of it has come to pass, therefore they discard all of the other end times prophecies.
The irony here is that it is these are the people who need to understand end times prophecy the most. They are tangled in doubt and deception and have no general idea of what is coming, and the consequences that they will face by making wrong choice regarding the antichrist.
So, why is God not wanting us to know the date when He is sending His Son to come and gather all those who are in Christ? Why the secrecy of this important timing?
This had become a new “puzzle” for me to try to piece together. However, it turns out that the information was quite accessible, and required no complex study at all.
1. God wants us to be ready every day, not just on one particular day
Matthew 24:42 (KJV)
“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”
Matthew 24:44 (KJV)
“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
Imagine if God had revealed that the Rapture would occur on September 15, 2030. Many Christians might postpone repentance, spiritual growth, witnessing, and serving others until that date approached. Instead, the uncertainty encourages believers to live faithfully every day.
Although Matthew 24 is interpreted differently among Christians concerning the Rapture and Second Coming, its instruction to watchfulness is unmistakable.
2. God wants our faith to rest in His promises, not our calculations
2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
“For we walk by faith, not by sight:”
If we knew the exact date, watching for Christ could become little more than counting down the days. But God desires something greater: faith that continues even when His promises seem delayed.
Consider the ten virgins.
Matthew 25:5 (KJV)
“While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.”
The bridegroom did not arrive when they apparently expected him.
Then, suddenly:
Matthew 25:6 (KJV)
“And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.”
The lesson is profound. The wise virgins were prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival even though they did not know when he would come. Perhaps the uncertainty itself is part of the test of readiness.
3. God does not want believers to abandon their earthly responsibilities
Luke 19:13 (KJV)
“And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”
Jesus taught His followers to remain faithful in their responsibilities while awaiting His return. If believers knew the exact date of the Rapture, some might stop working, planning, helping others, or making preparations for the future.
Instead, Christians can continue serving God, loving their families, and sharing the Gospel while remaining watchful. The anticipation of Christ’s return should encourage faithful living, not replace it.
4. God wants us to recognize the times without claiming to know the date
Here is an especially interesting distinction.
1 Thessalonians 5:2–4 (KJV)
“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.”
Notice Paul’s words:
“But ye, brethren, are not in darkness.”
Paul distinguishes believers from those who are spiritually unprepared. From a pre-Tribulation perspective, this supports the importance of watching and understanding prophecy. God wants us to be prepared, and not be in the dark regarding the events of the last days.
God has provided prophetic information that Christians can study without promising that they will calculate the exact moment of Christ’s coming.
5. God wants us to love His appearing, not merely anticipate a date
This may be the most beautiful reason of all.
2 Timothy 4:8 (KJV)
“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
Notice what Paul did not say. He did not promise a crown to those who successfully calculated the date. He spoke of those who love His appearing.
There is a tremendous difference between loving the return of Jesus Christ and becoming consumed with predicting when it will happen. The believer’s hope is ultimately in Christ Himself.
6. The delay may allow more people to come to repentance
2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
Peter directly connects God’s apparent delay with His longsuffering. What believers experience as waiting may be an opportunity for others to hear the Gospel and turn to Christ. Every additional day is another day in which the Gospel can be preached.
I have appreciated the teachings that God has allowed me to learn this past month. Characteristic habits are hard to break. That desire to study, learn, investigate and dig deep will never go away, for this is just how I am wired. However, there are boundaries that God has, that I need to respect and honor.
My fascination with the Bible continues. I am trying to regain the lost time that I have spent in studying an incorrect gospel for all of my life. I am more than thrilled to finally come to know the Gospel that Jesus actually taught when He was on the earth.
Learning that in itself has prepared me for the rapture, for I now know that I will be included in this rescue plan from God. I also know that I will be living with God in Heaven. Can there be anything more comforting than to know both of these things with great certainty, rather than just hope?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is indeed freeing. I invite you all to take ownership of your spiritual development and knowledge. Do not let a church tell you what is true and what is false. Go directly to the New Testament and learn the Gospel of Jesus Christ for yourself.
Learn how you can become “Born Again” and to be “in Christ,” as Jesus and His apostles taught so well.
Let’s do as God has asked us to do in these final days…Come to Him, repent, and look forward to being reunited with our Savior Jesus Christ. This amazing prophetic promise has been given to all who are in Christ, and regardless of the date… WILL NEVER CHANGE!
