There are moments throughout Scripture when God speaks loudly—through prophets, miracles, warnings, trumpets, thundering’s, and judgments. But there are also remarkable moments when Scripture describes something entirely different: silence. Not because God has disappeared, and not necessarily because nothing is happening, but because mankind is being told to become quiet in the presence of Almighty God.
Zephaniah gives us one of the strongest examples:
“Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.” — Zephaniah 1:7 KJV
Notice the order of those words. “Hold thy peace.” Then comes the reason: “for the day of the LORD is at hand.”
This isn’t the silence of people who have nothing to say. It is the solemn silence of people standing before a holy God when the time for arguing, boasting, explaining, and pretending has ended. God knows what has happened. He knows every heart. He knows every hidden thing. And Zephaniah describes the approaching Day of the LORD as a time when mankind should become quiet before Him.
Habakkuk gives us remarkably similar language:
“But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.” — Habakkuk 2:20 KJV
What a powerful statement.
God is still there.
The world may be confused. Evil may appear to prosper. People may wonder why God isn’t intervening. False religions may speak loudly. Governments may boast. Men may behave as though they answer to nobody.
And yet Scripture simply declares:
“The LORD is in his holy temple.”
God hasn’t abandoned His throne.
And therefore:
“Let all the earth keep silence before him.”
When God’s Silence Is Mistaken for God’s Absence
One of the great dangers of delayed judgment is that mankind begins to believe judgment isn’t coming.
Ecclesiastes describes exactly this problem:
“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” — Ecclesiastes 8:11 KJV
When God doesn’t immediately respond to wickedness, people can mistakenly conclude that He doesn’t care.
When evil people prosper, they can conclude that God doesn’t see.
When religious deception continues for generations, people can conclude that God isn’t going to expose it.
When judgment doesn’t come immediately, mankind can mistake God’s patience for God’s approval.
But Scripture repeatedly warns us against making that mistake.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” — Galatians 6:7 KJV
God’s apparent silence doesn’t mean God has been mocked successfully. It may simply mean the story isn’t finished yet.
Scripture Even Describes Silence in Heaven
There is another extraordinary silence described in Revelation:
“And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.” — Revelation 8:1 KJV
Revelation normally describes heaven as extraordinarily active. There are angels, living creatures, worship, voices and praises to God.
And then suddenly—silence.
What follows is sobering.
“And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.” — Revelation 8:2 KJV
The silence precedes the trumpet judgments.
Revelation 8:1 occurs specifically at the opening of the seventh seal. The KJV does not tell us that this particular half-hour silence occurs immediately before the Rapture. We shouldn’t move the verse somewhere Scripture doesn’t place it. But it does reveal a fascinating biblical principle. Silence can precede a major event in these end times.
So, for a moment, I’d like for you to consider your emotions. What are you feeling right now? As someone who is watching for the rapture to occur, what are you experiencing? Does it feel “Quiet” in your surroundings? Not necessarily from a noise level perspective, but how does your spirit feel right now?
Reverent?
Displaced?
Excited?
Emotionally Sober?
Guarded?
Impatient?
And now, an important question as well. How do you suppose someone would feel prior to actually meeting the Savior, and being with Him forever?
Hold onto your feelings for they are indeed a strong indicator of what you are about to experience.
Let’s read that scripture once more.
“But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.” — Habakkuk 2:20 KJV
God hasn’t left His throne. God hasn’t forgotten His promises. God hasn’t lost control of the world. And God’s patience with evil should never be mistaken for God’s inability to judge it.
Perhaps there are moments when we’ve said everything we know to say, searched everything we know to search, and prayed everything we know to pray.
Then we experience our current state of quiet, and calm…
Be still.
Watch.
Trust Him.
And remember:
“Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” — Revelation 22:20 KJV
“Amen” means “truly,” “certainly,” or “so be it.”
Does this scripture speak to you? It does to me! Quietly, but Profound and Very Clear.
We are in a moment of faith right now. I feel that we have boarded the ark, and God is about to seal the door. He has identified those people living on earth, as well as those who have passed before us, that He is sending His Son to Catch Up to be with Him.
The prophecies about the end times are no longer just a “story” of what is to come, they are about to begin to play our right before our very eyes.
I can’t help but feel so BLESSED to be considered one that God will rescue. Not because of anything that I have done to deserve such a blessing, but by belonging to the One that gave it all for me…Jesus Christ.
In my life, He has rescued me from the chains of sin, from a religion that does not teach the most important gospel principle of how to be with Jesus Christ in Heaven, and now again, to be rescued from a world that will soon be under God’s judgment… I am so undeserving of such blessings.
I am no longer “waiting” for the rapture…I am simply in awe to know what is about to take place. Assured of God’s love for me through His plan that I have come to know.
My life has taught me something that has always been SOLID… “The Need that I have for Jesus Christ in My Life.”
When things become too great of a challenge, to give that burden to Christ.
Matthew 11:28–30 KJV:
28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
30 “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
For any of you reading this today, if “waiting” for the rapture has become difficult, I invite you to give your burden to the Savior through prayer. Let Him take the “challenge” out of this for you…For I can promise you that He will.
The day of the rapture happening no longer becomes a priority, nor a focus. He will place you in a “moment of awe,” in a “Quiet Place” as you contemplate just how blessed that you are to belong to Him.
You will come to fully appreciate that the “rescue component” is just the beginning of our time to actually be with Jesus Christ…Forever. That is amazing!!!
The time has come…you will eternally remember this day.
