Can We Conclude that ALL Who are “In Christ” Will Be Raptured, or Will Some “In Christ” Be Left Behind? Let’s Investigate (KJV)

I’ve often prayed for the “assignment” to be one of the 144,000 who will be on the earth during the 7-year Tribulation Period, teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ…in the actual “Battle Field.”

I’ve actually spent some time trying to discover if that would even be possible, purposely missing the Rapture, with the intent to serve my God. Sadly, for me, this is not possible.

Here is one qualifier of those 144,000 that has eliminate me from that possibility:

Revelation 14:3–5 (KJV)

3 “And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.”

Taken in the most straightforward, literal reading, the 144,000 are male Israelites who are virgins, because Revelation 7 identifies them as “of all the tribes of the children of Israel” (Revelation 7:4), and Revelation 14:4 says they “were not defiled with women; for they are virgins.”

Some interpreters understand the virginity language symbolically as describing spiritual purity and freedom from idolatry. However, Revelation actually uses the explicit phrase “for they are virgins,” so a literal interpretation has substantial textual support.

But let’s continue with the teaching of the title of this writing. Does the scripture teach anything specific in an inclusive nature of taking ALL who are in Christ during the rapture, or will some intentionally be left behind? Let’s take a deep dive into this.

If we stay closely with the KJV passages normally understood as describing the Rapture, Paul gives no indication that God intentionally leaves behind some genuinely “in Christ” believers. Rather, his language is strikingly inclusive.

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 (KJV)
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and withthe trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

Paul doesn’t divide those “in Christ” into more-faithful and less-faithful groups. He says the dead “in Christ” rise and the living believers are “caught up together with them.”

An even stronger teaching is here:

1 Corinthians 15:51–52 (KJV)
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

Notice Paul’s wording:

“We shall ALL be changed.”

That makes it difficult to construct a doctrine in which some genuinely saved people are deliberately excluded, because they weren’t spiritually mature enough, or that God would leave them behind on purpose for some other reason.

Paul also establishes who belongs to Christ:

Romans 8:9 (KJV)
“Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”

And believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit:

Ephesians 1:13 (KJV)
“…after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”

So, the biblical distinction appears to be fundamentally between those who belong to Christ and those who do not—not between “excellent Christians who qualify for the Rapture” and “less faithful Christians who must remain behind.” Notice that there is NO JUDGMENT here in regards to the rapture: You are either “in Christ” or are not. Good works, religious ties to a certain organization, nor anything else is considered.

This also helps us understand passages telling Christians to watch and be ready. Those warnings should absolutely motivate faithful living, but Scripture doesn’t clearly say that a born-again believer loses participation in the Rapture because they weren’t watching prophecy closely enough.

There is also no KJV passage saying that God will intentionally leave certain “in Christ” believers behind so they can evangelize during the Tribulation. Revelation shows that God has His own purposes and witnesses during that period, including the 144,000 and the two witnesses.

So, we can conclude from these teachings that if a person is truly “in Christ,” that person belongs to Christ. When Christ gathers His people, Scripture says, “we shall ALL be changed.” There is no explicit biblical category of born-again Christians whom God deliberately leaves behind at the Rapture.

The qualification is ultimately Christ, not our degree of prophetic knowledge or our performance. All that belong to Him can KNOW that they will be included in the rapture, and not left behind for some other purpose.

So, what does that mean for someone who is ACTUALLY left behind, and thought that they were “in Christ”?

First off, we must realize who the “judge” is here…It is GOD! There is no customer service line that you can stand in and argue that “there must be some misunderstanding, because I’m in Christ, but was left behind.”

If you have been left behind it is 100% that you are not “in Christ” because you have NOT yet received the spiritual rebirth of becoming born again, as taught by Jesus Christ and recorded in the New Testament.

I can BOLDLY proclaim that there are MANY people who have been deceived through their own religion, that they have completed the requirement of being Born Again, because they have been baptized and confirmed. This is NOT how a person becomes Born Again! If this is you, and are basing your preparation upon your baptism, you will not be raptured.

Can you see this play out in real time? You think that you belong to the “True Church” and that you have special knowledge. You have done many good works, and think that you have been born again because of your baptism. The rapture comes, and you have been left behind. You ask, WHY?????

Let me answer that question with two scriptures:

Matthew 7:21–23 (KJV)
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven…
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

Notice that these people believed they belonged to Christ. They even called Him “Lord.” Their confidence, however, centered heavily on what they had done. And the reaction from the Savior… “I never knew you: depart from me.”… And this is HEAVEN that Christ is referring to… This is a situation where someone thinks that they are going to heaven, but they are NOT.

Just because a person is religious, does not mean that Christ knows you. He only “knows” those who have received the spiritual rebirth, and are “sealed unto Him, which has nothing to do with a temple.”

Jesus told Nicodemus something deeper was necessary:

John 3:3 (KJV)
“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Paul similarly warns:

Romans 8:9 (KJV)
“Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”

We have learned through scripture that the SPIRIT is given to those immediately when they are Born Again. It comes from God directly, and human hands are not a universal prerequisite.

Ephesians 1:13

Ephesians 1:13 (KJV)
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”

Notice the progression:

They heard the Gospel → trusted Christ → believed → were sealed with the Holy Spirit.

There is no laying on of hands mentioned.

Paul similarly writes:

Galatians 3:2 (KJV)
“This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”

And answers the principle again:

Galatians 3:14 (KJV)
“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

That is exceptionally strong:

“the Spirit through faith.”

Scripture teaches that when a person hears the Gospel, places genuine faith in Jesus Christ, and becomes His, that believer receives and is sealed with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is a gift from God received through faith—not a spiritual possession controlled by another man. Bottom of Form

And Scripture tells us how salvation is received:

Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

So, within that Rapture framework, being left behind wouldn’t necessarily mean, “I wasn’t good enough for the Rapture.” The more fundamental question would be, “Was I actually trusting Jesus Christ for my salvation, or was I trusting my religion, ordinances, works, goodness, knowledge, or merely assuming that I belonged to Him?”

And importantly, being left behind would not mean that person’s opportunity to come to Christ was necessarily over. Revelation describes people associated with the great Tribulation who have been redeemed:

“These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

Therefore, if someone found themselves in that situation, the biblical response would be: turn completely to Jesus Christ, believe the Gospel, trust His sacrifice rather than your own righteousness, and follow Him regardless of the cost.

I invite all of you to consider if you have indeed been Born Again as Christ taught. Recognize that you are a sinner, and that because of your sins you cannot enter the presence of God.

Study and learn about the atonement of Jesus Christ. Recognize that He came to the earth to DIE and Atone for your sins. Have faith and believe that this is the only way that you can have your sins forgiven. Accept His sacrifice by having faith in what He has done for us, and that it is only through Him and His atonement that we can be saved… NOT shared with your good works, Church nor temple rituals… Just entirely Jesus Christ and His atonement.

Jesus did this for all mankind, but because of our free agency, a person must CHOOSE to receive this GIFT of salvation that He offers. We accept the gift of the atonement by having faith in His sacrifice. We also show that faith by repenting of our sins, and asking God for forgiveness. This is done JUST between you and God, through Jesus Christ. A church has no part in repentance nor forgiveness; it comes only from God.

Just do this TODAY, if you have not already done so. Trust in Jesus Christ and His atonement as the only thing necessary for your salvation. Accept His atonement through your faith, just as Christ has asked us to do, and you can know that you too will be included in His rescue plan of the rapture that will soon take place.
