Every follower of Jesus Christ knows what it feels like to have a battle taking place in the mind. One moment there is peace, hope, and confidence in God’s promises. The next moment, fear, doubt, confusion, and discouragement seem to appear from nowhere.
The Bible reveals that this conflict is not imaginary. There are two completely different messages competing for our attention. One comes from the enemy of our souls. The other comes from our Savior.
As the last days become darker, these two voices become easier to recognize.
The Whisperings of Satan
Satan rarely begins with open rebellion. Instead, he whispers.
His goal has always been to cause people to question God’s Word, just as he did in the Garden of Eden.
“Yea, hath God said…?”
(Genesis 3:1, KJV)
Notice that Satan did not begin by denying God. He first planted doubt.
Those same whispers continue today.
Satan whispers:
“God has forgotten you.”
But Jesus says:
“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
(Hebrews 13:5, KJV)
Satan whispers:
“The Rapture isn’t coming. You’ve waited too long.”
Jesus says:
“Surely I come quickly.”
(Revelation 22:20, KJV)
Satan whispers:
“You’re not really saved.”
Jesus answers:
“He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
(John 5:24, KJV)
Satan whispers:
“God is disappointed in you.”
Jesus says:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
(Matthew 11:28, KJV)
Satan whispers:
“You’re all alone.”
Jesus reminds us:
“Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
(Matthew 28:20, KJV)
Satan whispers:
“You’re too weak to keep going.”
Jesus says:
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
(2 Corinthians 12:9, KJV)
Satan whispers:
“Look at everything happening in the world. There is no hope.”
Jesus says:
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”
(John 14:1, KJV)
Why the Battle Becomes More Intense
The closer believers draw to Christ, the more Satan desires to discourage them.
Peter warned believers:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
(1 Peter 5:8, KJV)
The enemy understands that fear weakens faith, while God’s truth strengthens it.
Paul explained that our greatest battlefield is not against people.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
(Ephesians 6:12, KJV)
Many Christians blame themselves for every discouraging thought that enters their minds. Yet Scripture reminds us that spiritual warfare is real. The important question is not whether a thought enters our mind—but whether we choose to believe it or compare it with God’s Word.
How Jesus Defeated Satan
When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus never argued with him.
He answered every temptation with Scripture.
“It is written…”

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

“Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
The Word of God silenced every lie.
The same weapon has been given to every believer today.
Paul describes it as:
“The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
(Ephesians 6:17, KJV)
Every time Satan whispers fear, answer him with what Jesus has already said.
How Can We Know Which Voice We Are Hearing?
One voice produces confusion.
The other produces peace.
One voice fills us with condemnation.
The other reminds us of God’s grace.
One voice points us toward ourselves.
The other points us toward Jesus Christ.
Jesus said:
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
(John 10:27, KJV)
The more time we spend reading the words of Christ, the easier it becomes to recognize when another voice is speaking.
A Message for Those Waiting for the Rapture
Many believers have faithfully watched and waited for the Lord’s return.
Some have become weary.
Some wonder why He has not yet come.
Others silently ask if they have misunderstood.
This is precisely when Satan likes to whisper.
But listen instead to the promises of Christ.
Jesus never told His followers to stop watching.
He never told them to give up.
Instead He said:
“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”
(Matthew 24:42, KJV)
And again:
“When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
(Luke 21:28, KJV)
Those are not the words of Someone who has forgotten His people.
They are the words of a Savior encouraging His followers to remain faithful until He comes.
The Final Choice
Every day we decide which voice we will believe.
Satan continues to whisper lies that produce fear, doubt, discouragement, and hopelessness.
Jesus continues to speak truth that brings peace, confidence, hope, forgiveness, and eternal life.
As the days grow darker, there has never been a more important time to know the voice of the Good Shepherd.
When discouraging thoughts enter your mind, ask one simple question:
“Do these words sound like Satan—or do they sound like Jesus Christ?”
If they contradict the clear teachings of Scripture, reject them.
Open your Bible.
Listen again to the words of your Savior.
His voice has not changed.
His promises have not failed.
And His final words to His waiting Church still echo across the pages of Scripture:
“Surely I come quickly.”
May every believer answer with John’s response:
“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
(Revelation 22:20, KJV)
