If you are young and trying to understand what God wants from you, I want to share something very simple. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about joining the right church. It is not about becoming a religious expert. It is not about trying to be good enough for heaven. Does this surprise you?
Today, I’d like to share just exactly what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is, and the things that you need to know. You will find it refreshing, and easy to understand. It is life changing, and will bring you the greatest joy that you have ever experienced in your life.
The gospel is about Jesus Christ.
Many people spend years learning about religion, but never truly come to know Christ Himself. Yet Jesus said:
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17:3 KJV)
God loves you more than you can imagine. He created you, knows everything about you, and desires a personal relationship with you. He has led you to this information to save you from false teachings, and show you exactly what He wants you to know.
Each of us on earth have sinned. You, me… everyone.
The Bible says:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23 KJV)
Sin separates us from God, and usually leads us to feeling depressed, dark, and uncomfortable with our life. We tend to seek out things to make us feel better, yet can never seem to find something that makes us feel bright inside.
Your Heavenly Father knew that we would come to earth and sin. That’s right! And because of this, he created a plan. He would send His Son, Jesus Christ to the earth and take all of our sins away from each of us, through a process called the Atonement.
The atonement of Jesus Christ is God’s perfect provision to save sinners who cannot save themselves. Jesus, who lived a sinless life, willingly took upon Himself the punishment that we deserved for our sins. He suffered, shed His blood, died on the cross, and was buried, and on the third day He rose again from the dead.
Through His sacrifice, the debt of sin was paid in full, making forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life available to all who place their faith in Him.
This atonement is offered to everyone, but God does not force it upon any of us, due to our free agency. We have to choose to accept this sacrifice, so that our sins can be forgiven and removed. So, how do we do this?
The Bible teaches a concept that answers this question. It’s called becoming “Born Again.” Let me teach you how this process is done, for it is something that you can do right now.
How Can I Be Born Again? (KJV)
Imagine that your life is like a book. Every thought, every word, and every action has been written on its pages. The Bible teaches that all of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect standard (Romans 3:23). No amount of good works, church attendance, baptism, or personal effort can erase those sins. That is why Jesus Christ came into the world.
One night, Jesus told a religious man named Nicodemus,
“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3 KJV).
Being born again does not mean becoming religious. It means receiving a new spiritual life from God. When a person places their trust in Jesus Christ alone to save them, God forgives their sins and gives them a new heart and a new relationship with Him.
The Bible says,
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works” (Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV).
To be born again, you must believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, repent by turning to Him, and place your faith in Him as your Lord and Savior.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9 KJV).
When you trust in Christ, God does not simply improve your old life—He gives you a new one. The Holy Spirit comes to live within you, and you become a child of God.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12 KJV).
In simple terms:
- Admit that you are a sinner.
- Study the atonement of Jesus Christ, and believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again.
- Trust Him alone to save you. It is not about paying tithing, your good works, or anything else that you do. Your being saved is a gift from God, and you just need to accept His gift and realize that it is because of this gift alone that you will live with Jesus in Heaven forever.
- Receive Him as your Lord and Savior, by asking Him to be your Savior through a prayer.
Jesus promised,
“Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37 KJV).
If you come to Him in faith, He will save you, forgive you, and give you new life. That is what it means to be born again.
Does this sound too simple? The process IS VERY Simple. And, let me show you what will happen after you do this.
When you have had this “spiritual rebirth,” you change. You now have less of a desire to sin. Because you now have His Holy Spirit inside you, this is protecting you from the desires of the flesh. You also have an increased desire to do good works, which may even include helping out others who are financially struggling, or simple need help moving or completing tasks.
You realize that you are not sinning because you were taught NOT TO, you are not sinning because you want to be closer to God, and that you desire to live a life that keeps Him close to you. Can you see how all of this works?
All of the “Requirements” that a church teaches that are necessary to get to heaven are false. Becoming Born Again is all that is required. Accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior, and trusting in His atonement by repenting of your sins is what is “required”
Now, let me teach you about repentance. This is done between you and God, through prayer, not through a church. We need to recognize what we have done is wrong, and feel genuine sorrow for messing up. We confess what we have done to God in prayer. Then, we ask Him for forgiveness, and ask for His strength in helping us not to do it again.
Yes, we might continue to make mistakes, and each time that we do, we repent of that sin. As things progress, we find that because of the Holy Spirit that is inside of us now, we get better, and sin less, even to the point when some sins no longer are a part of our life. This is the evidence of us becoming “Born Again.” If this does not happen in your life, you need to talk to God and follow the promptings that He will give you.
Because of what Jesus accomplished, forgiveness and eternal life are available to anyone who believes on Him.
The Bible says:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31 KJV)
When a person believes the gospel and trusts Christ as Savior, God forgives their sins, gives them eternal life, and places His Spirit within them.
Jesus said:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” (John 6:47 KJV)
Notice that Jesus said “hath” everlasting life. Not “might have” or “could have someday.” Those who trust in Christ possess eternal life because of His promise. That’s right, once you have become “Born Again,” you can plan on going to heaven, as well as being included in the rapture which will soon take place.
You do not need to clean yourself up before coming to Christ. You come to Him exactly as you are. You do not need to earn His love; you already have it. You do not need to save yourself; Jesus already did the work.
The greatest decision you will ever make is whether you will trust Him.
One day every person will stand before God. Your church, your family, your friends, and your accomplishments will not be standing beside you, it will be just you and Him.
What will matter is one question: “Did you have a relationship with Jesus Christ?”
So, what do we do from here?
Jesus said:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 KJV)
That sounds pretty awesome, right? Rest!!!
If you have never trusted Christ, speak to Him today. Right now, get on your knees and say a prayer to God. Tell Him that you would like Jesus Christ to come into your life. Ask Him to guide you through the spiritual process of becoming Born Again. Tell God that you realize that you are a sinner, and that you need the atonement of Jesus Christ so that you can be forgiven of your sins. Then, think of those sins that come to mind, and repent of the things that you have done wrong, and ask for His forgiveness.
From here, pay close attention to your thoughts. This is how God will speak to you. He will prompt you with ideas and thoughts regarding what He would like you to do.
Continue to learn the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in the New Testament. Christ was here on earth, and while He was here, He taught His gospel. It is complete and finished. Any NEW teaching that goes against what Jesus taught while He was on the earth is not to be considered, for this is what His apostle Paul told us:
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
(Galatians 1:8 KJV)
Paul then immediately repeats the warning:
“As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
(Galatians 1:9 KJV)
Let me also share a very easy way to learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In a search on your computer or phone, type in…
“Show me all of the KJV scriptures that teach about ___(your desired topic)___”
KJV is the King James Version of the Bible. You may use any version that you are most comfortable with. This will show you all of Christ’s teachings, so that you will be able to see the entire picture of what He taught.
This is so empowering. You are not following some churches’ interpretation of the gospel. It is just you, God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, learning the truth through the writing that are in the New Testament. You will quickly come to realize the truth of this teaching:
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
— John 8:32 (KJV)
Give the burden of sin to Him through repentance. This in itself will be one of the most freeing feelings that you will ever have.
One last teaching – This Spiritual Rebirth happens IMMEDIATELY!
The moment a person believes the gospel and trusts in Christ alone for salvation, God gives them new spiritual life:
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
— John 1:12 (KJV)
The Holy Spirit enters the believer immediately:
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.”
— Ephesians 1:13 (KJV)
A person may grow in knowledge, obedience, and spiritual maturity over time, but the new birth itself is an instantaneous act of God. Just as physical birth happens at a specific moment, spiritual birth happens at a specific moment.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
In simple terms: you do not spend years becoming born again—you are born again the moment you place your faith in Jesus Christ. After that, you spend the rest of your life growing in your relationship with Him.
This is one of the main reasons that you were sent to this earth. To realize that you can not live your life without the partnership with Jesus Christ. To accept His atoning sacrifice, and repent of your sins to be forgiven…made clean again, and to KNOW that because of Jesus Christ, you will live with God again FOREVER!!
I wish you the very best as you come to Christ, and experience this new rebirth. If I were you…I’d start right now, for we are running out of time.
