Eternity!!! Our existence that we will be experiencing forever, is one of the most important topics that I have studied.
Over the course of my lifetime, I have had to relearn all of this, due to belonging to a church whose doctrine was simply made up by someone who did not even consider the Bible when writing the churches doctrine about eternity.
I am forever grateful for learning the truth now. It is very refreshing, and reassuring compared to what I had been taught. I am overjoyed to know that I will not be in a polygamist relationship, having spirit babies, and being a god over my own planet. I know this sounds ridiculous, because it is!
So let me share now, the true teaching of Eternity, as taught in the KJV of the Bible.
Eternity starts RIGHT NOW, with the MOST important thing that a person can do on earth…Becoming Born Again.
As we have learned through this series, just this one qualification alone determines which judgment a person will face:
Judgment Seat of Christ or the Great White Thorne Judgment.
Those who have been Born Again will be included in the Judgment Seat of Christ, and will live with Jesus Christ throughout the 1,000-year millennial period, and eventually with God in the new heaven and earth that God will create.
Those who have rejected the atonement of Jesus Christ, will be responsible for all of their sins, and will be “judged” at the end of the millennium in the Great White Thorne Judgment. Their destination has already been determined…They will be cast into the Lake of Fire: the second death. They will spend eternity here!
The wonderful message of the Gospel is that no one has to face the Lake of Fire. Salvation is available through Jesus Christ, but it involves some action that you must complete here on this earth.
And, what is most comforting, is that I KNOW, RIGHT NOW, where I will be in eternity. No longer do I need to guess if I was worthy enough: if I had done enough good deeds; if I had paid enough tithing; nor, ANYTHING else.
Accepting the GIFT of the atonement of Jesus Christ through faith, and repenting is what Christ has asked of me. And because of this, I will be spending eternity with Him.
Sound too simple? Simple is not the word that I would use…”Sounds too IMPORTANT!!”
Will there be PROGRESSION in Eternity?
According to the King James Version of the Bible, there are good reasons to believe that we will continue learning, discovering, serving, and experiencing wonderful things throughout eternity.
Revelation 22:3 tells us that God’s servants will serve Him, while Revelation 22:5 promises that we will reign with Him forever and ever. Ephesians 2:7 speaks of God revealing the exceeding riches of His grace “in the ages to come.”
Isaiah 11:9 (KJV)
“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”
With all of this knowledge available, we can expect that we will continue learning after we die. Every person has different things that they are interested in, and additional knowledge is on the top of my list.
I am in awe with the possibility of learning those things that will become available: The things that Jesus Christ Himself knows. How the creation of mankind, the earth, and everything that I have seen in my experience on earth, will be such a fascinating journey of learning for me.
When we enter eternity with our glorified bodies, we will be free from sin, sickness, suffering, and death. First John 3:2 tells us that we shall be like Jesus Christ, for we shall see Him as He is.
We may continue discovering the wonders of His creation and growing in our understanding of His infinite greatness. Eternity will not be an endless existence of inactivity, but a glorious life in the presence of God and Jesus Christ, filled with love, joy, peace, and meaningful service forever and ever.
Are there different Degrees of Heaven?
No. The Bible does not teach that saved people will be separated into three different heavenly kingdoms according to their degree of righteousness.
1. Jesus prepares a place for all believers
John 14:2–3 (KJV)
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
The word “mansions” refers to dwelling places, revealing that Jesus has promised a permanent home for those who belong to Him. He also promises to return and receive His followers unto Himself, so they may be with Him forever.
Many Christians believe these dwelling places are associated with the New Jerusalem described in Revelation 21, although the Bible does not specifically identify their location or describe what each dwelling will look like. What we do know is that all who are born again through Jesus Christ will dwell with God for eternity.
The greatest blessing of heaven will not be the beauty of our mansions, but the wonderful privilege of living in the presence of Jesus Christ forever. As Jesus promised in John 14:3, “that where I am, there ye may be also.”
Jesus promises that His followers will be with Him. He does not describe three different kingdoms of salvation.
2. All the saved will dwell with God
Revelation 21:3 (KJV)
“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
Following the Great White Throne Judgment, God creates the New Heaven and New Earth. His redeemed people will dwell with Him forever.
3. There may be different rewards, but not different heavens
1 Corinthians 3:14–15 (KJV)
“If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”
This passage teaches that believers may receive different rewards according to their works. However, even the believer who suffers loss of reward is still saved.
The Crowns of Glory are heavenly rewards that Jesus Christ will give to faithful believers for their service, obedience, perseverance, and love for Him. The King James Bible describes five crowns:
The Incorruptible Crown (1 Corinthians 9:25), given to those who faithfully exercise self-discipline in their Christian walk;
The Crown of Rejoicing (1 Thessalonians 2:19), associated with those who lead others to Jesus Christ;
The Crown of Righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8), promised to those who love and eagerly await the appearing of Jesus Christ;
The Crown of Life (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10), promised to those who faithfully endure trials and persecution;
The Crown of Glory (1 Peter 5:4), promised to faithful shepherds who lovingly care for God’s people.
These crowns are not the means of salvation, because eternal life is a gift received through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8–9). Rather, they represent rewards for faithfulness after salvation. Believers will have their works examined at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Corinthians 3:11–15), where their service to the Lord will be evaluated.
Different heavenly rewards do not necessarily mean different heavenly kingdoms.
What does the Bible teach about “Outer Darkness?”
The King James Version specifically mentions a place or condition called “outer darkness” three times. Jesus Himself uses this expression when describing judgment upon the wicked. Outer darkness is associated with separation, sorrow, and punishment.
Let’s examine what the Bible actually says.
1. Matthew 8:12 (KJV)
“But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Jesus warns that those who reject Him, despite their religious privileges, may face judgment. Outer darkness represents exclusion from the blessings of God’s kingdom.
2. Matthew 22:13 (KJV)
“Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
In the parable of the wedding feast, Jesus describes a man who enters without a wedding garment. The man without the wedding garment represents someone who appears among God’s people but is not spiritually prepared to enter His Kingdom, (Born Again). The king orders him removed and cast into outer darkness.
This illustrates the seriousness of being unprepared for God’s judgment.
3. Matthew 25:30 (KJV)
“And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
In the parable of the talents, Jesus describes the judgment of an unprofitable servant.
Again, outer darkness is associated with rejection and punishment.
4. Is outer darkness the same as the Lake of Fire?
The Bible does not explicitly state that outer darkness and the Lake of Fire are the same place.
However, both are associated with divine judgment.
Revelation 20:15 (KJV)
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Many Christians understand outer darkness as a description of the final punishment of the lost, rather than a separate destination. I too share this same understanding, and interpretation.
What are the Relationships that we will have in eternity?
One of the most beautiful questions we can ask about eternity is: Will we recognize our loved ones in Heaven? Will husbands and wives still love one another? Will parents recognize their children? And what will our relationships be like in the New Heaven and New Earth?
The King James Version gives us some wonderful insights into these questions. Although God has not revealed every detail, Scripture assures us that our eternal relationships will be free from sin, jealousy, sorrow, separation, and death.
1. Will we recognize our loved ones in eternity?
Yes. There are good biblical reasons to believe that we will recognize one another in eternity.
1 Corinthians 13:12 (KJV)
“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
Paul tells us that our present understanding is limited, but a time is coming when we will know more fully.
Another interesting example is the Transfiguration of Jesus.
Matthew 17:3 (KJV)
“And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.”
Moses and Elijah appeared as recognizable individuals, even though they had lived centuries earlier.
While these passages do not explicitly promise that every family member will recognize every other family member, they support the belief that our individual identities will continue beyond this life.
We have good reason to believe we will know our loved ones in eternity.
2. Will husbands and wives still be married in eternity?
No. Jesus directly addressed marriage after the resurrection.
Matthew 22:30 (KJV)
“For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.”
This is an especially important scripture.
Jesus explains that marriage will not operate in the resurrection as it does during our mortal lives. This purpose of marriage has been fulfilled here upon the earth in establishing a family.
This does not mean husbands and wives will forget one another or stop loving each other. Rather, our relationships will be transformed into something greater than what we presently experience.
A husband and wife who are both saved can look forward to eternal fellowship with Christ and His redeemed people. However, Scripture does not state that they will continue as a married couple.
Our earthly marriage relationship will change, but God’s love will never end.
3. Will parents and children recognize each other?
Yes. Consider what King David said after the death of his infant son.
2 Samuel 12:23 (KJV)
“But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”
David expressed confidence that he would go to his child, although the passage does not fully explain what that reunion would involve.
This scripture has brought comfort to many parents who have lost children.
It is reasonable to believe that family members will recognize one another in eternity.
4. Will we still be called mother, father, son, and daughter?
The Bible does not specifically tell us whether we will continue using our earthly family titles in eternity.
However, Jesus teaches something important about our spiritual family.
Matthew 12:49–50 (KJV)
“And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
Jesus emphasizes that belonging to God’s spiritual family is greater than earthly family relationships.
In eternity, all who belong to Christ will be united as God’s children.
Romans 8:16–17 (KJV)
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”
Our relationships will no longer be defined primarily by the responsibilities and limitations of earthly family life.
We will belong to one glorious family of God. This is important to realize. It is easy to do, if you remove the limitations of earth life.
The Purpose of Family on Earth: God established the earthly family to provide love, companionship, protection, and guidance. Through marriage, parenting, and family relationships, we learn to love, serve, forgive, and care for one another. Parents are entrusted with raising their children and teaching them about God and His Word (Ephesians 6:4). Earthly families are a blessing from God, but our earthly relationships are temporary in their present form.
The Purpose of God’s Family in Heaven: In eternity, all who have been born again through Jesus Christ will belong to one eternal family of God (Ephesians 3:14–15). Our purpose will no longer involve marriage, raising children, or continuing earthly family responsibilities (Matthew 22:30). Instead, we will live together in perfect love, unity, fellowship, worship, and service to God. Our greatest relationship will be with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and we will enjoy His presence forever (Revelation 22:3–4).
5. Will there be jealousy or sadness in our eternal relationships?
No. The Bible gives us a wonderful promise about the New Heaven and New Earth.
Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Imagine relationships without arguments, resentment, selfishness, jealousy, or hurt feelings!
Everything that presently damages our relationships will be gone.
We will experience perfect peace in God’s presence.
This also means that our eternal happiness will not depend on preserving every earthly relationship exactly as it exists today.
6. Will we love everyone equally in eternity?
The Bible does not specifically say whether we will feel exactly the same closeness toward every individual.
However, it teaches that love will never cease.
1 Corinthians 13:8 (KJV)
“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”
Here, charity means love.
Our eternal relationships will reflect the perfect love of God.
We will no longer experience the sinful selfishness and divisions that characterize so many relationships on earth.
7. Our greatest relationship will be with God and Jesus Christ
Perhaps the most wonderful part of eternity is that we will live in the presence of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Revelation 21:3 (KJV)
“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
And consider this amazing promise:
Revelation 22:4 (KJV)
“And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”
For the first time, we will experience the fullness of life in God’s presence, without the sin and limitations of our present mortal condition.
Our relationship with God will be the center of our eternal existence.
8. Will we enjoy friendships and fellowship throughout eternity?
Yes, Scripture gives us good reason to expect fellowship among God’s redeemed people.
1 Thessalonians 4:17–18 (KJV)
“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
Notice the word “together.”
Paul describes believers being gathered together to meet Jesus Christ.
We will not spend eternity in isolation. We will be part of the redeemed people of God, sharing eternal life in His presence.
Do relationships in heaven need to be sealed in a temple here on earth?
No. According to the King James Version, there is no biblical requirement that husbands, wives, parents, or children must be sealed together through a temple ordinance to enjoy eternal life in God’s presence.
What SEALING is Important for us to do here on earth?
Being Born Again: How We Are Sealed to Jesus Christ
When a person is born again through faith in Jesus Christ, they become a child of God and are sealed with the Holy Spirit. This sealing is not performed through a temple ordinance, priesthood ceremony, or religious ritual. It is the work of God Himself, through the Holy Spirit, when we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
1. Jesus said we must be born again
John 3:3 (KJV)
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Jesus taught Nicodemus that entering God’s Kingdom requires a spiritual rebirth. This is not a physical birth or a religious ceremony, but a transformation brought about by the Holy Spirit.
John 3:6 (KJV)
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
When we are born again, we receive new spiritual life through the Holy Spirit and become members of God’s family.
2. When we believe in Jesus Christ, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 1:13–14 (KJV)
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
This is one of the clearest scriptures explaining how believers are sealed by God.
Notice the order:
- We hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- We believe and place our trust in Him.
- We are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
- The Holy Spirit is the guarantee, or earnest, of our promised inheritance.
The word earnest means a pledge or down payment, assuring us of what God has promised.
3. God Himself seals us
2 Corinthians 1:21–22 (KJV)
“Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.”
Notice who performs the sealing: God Himself.
The passage does not describe a priesthood holder or temple ceremony. It describes God’s spiritual work in the believer.
4. We become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ
John 1:12–13 (KJV)
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
These verses explain that becoming God’s child does not depend upon our ancestry, family relationships, or the actions of another person.
We become God’s children through receiving Jesus Christ and being born of God.
5. We are sealed unto the day of redemption
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV)
“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”
This is a wonderful promise.
The Holy Spirit marks believers as belonging to God and points forward to the completion of their redemption.
6. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ
Romans 8:38–39 (KJV)
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Our eternal hope rests in God’s love and saving work through Jesus Christ.
In conclusion, each of us are currently facing the crossroads that will determine how and where we will spend our eternity. There is a fork in the road before us, and you are faced with a decision that you need to make right now. Each road leads to an entirely different place.
Will you do as God has asked of all of us? To recognize that we are a sinner and acknowledge the need of accepting the gift of the atonement of Jesus Christ, becoming born again? This road leads to an eternity of sheer bliss, blessings, happiness, eternal joy, association with family, and living in the presence of Jesus Christ and God.
Or will you choose to take the other road, rejecting the atonement of Jesus Christ, relying upon yourself to try to make it into heaven on your own? This road makes you responsible for all of your sins, and the destination will be the Lake of Fire, spending eternity in “outer Darkness” away from God, in a miserable environment of sheer torment.
To all of you… This earth life is the place that you need to make this decision, so it is VERY crucial that you get it right.
Study the teachings of Jesus Christ which are written in the bible. Learn how to become Born Again, or to be “in Christ.”
Once you have accepted Jesus Christ into your life, the rest of eternity is on automatic. Become “saved” and let God take it from there. By doing so, you can expect the very best in your eternity experience…For, this is my prayer on your behalf.
