There is something remarkable happening when we compare the end-times expectations of the world’s three Abrahamic religions. Christians are waiting for Jesus Christ. Many religious Jews are waiting for the Messiah. Muslims are awaiting end-times figures that commonly include the Mahdi and the return of Jesus. All three traditions anticipate that history is moving somewhere—that evil, conflict and deception will not simply continue forever and that extraordinary events will eventually bring the present age toward its conclusion.
Yet here is where this study becomes especially interesting: although there are striking similarities, these religions are most certainly not waiting for exactly the same thing. In fact, from a Christian KJV perspective, the differences may ultimately be more important than the similarities.
Christians Are Waiting for Jesus Christ
Christianity makes an extraordinary claim: the Messiah has already come once, and He is coming again. Christians are not waiting for the first appearance of an unknown Messiah. We are waiting for the return of the same Jesus Christ who walked upon this earth, died upon the cross, rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven.
Jesus said:
John 14:3 — KJV
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself…”
Paul describes believers being gathered to Him:
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 — KJV
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God… Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air…”
Christian prophecy also warns that before Christ ultimately establishes His kingdom; tremendous deception will occur. Scripture describes a powerful wicked ruler whom Christians commonly identify as the Antichrist, along with another figure Revelation calls the false prophet.
Paul warns of:
2 Thessalonians 2:3–4 — KJV
“…that man of sin… the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God…”
Revelation describes astonishing supernatural deception:
Revelation 13:13–14 — KJV
“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles…”
Therefore, Christianity contains two very different expectations: the return of the true Christ and the appearance of tremendous counterfeit religious and political power.
That distinction becomes extremely important.
Many Jews Are Still Waiting for the Messiah
Traditional Judaism does not accept Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah. Therefore, while Christians believe the Messiah came approximately two thousand years ago and will return, traditional Jewish expectation still looks toward the Messiah’s arrival.
Jewish messianic expectations are diverse, but classical Jewish thought commonly anticipates a future descendant of David associated with Israel’s redemption, the gathering of the Jewish people, restoration of Davidic rule, peace and—within traditional interpretations—the rebuilding of the Temple.
This makes passages Christians and Jews both possess particularly interesting.
Isaiah 11:1–2 — KJV
“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him…”
Christians believe this prophecy points to Jesus Christ.
Traditional Judaism continues to await its fulfillment through the coming Messiah.
Some Jewish traditions also associate the period preceding the messianic age with tremendous upheaval—sometimes described as the “birth pangs of the Messiah.” Jewish eschatological traditions have additionally connected the final redemption with Gog and Magog and a climactic struggle before the messianic age.
So, Christians and religious Jews can read some of the same ancient prophets and agree that a magnificent age of divine restoration is coming, while profoundly disagreeing about the identity of the Messiah who brings it.
Muslims Are Also Waiting for End-Times Figures
Islam adds another remarkable dimension.
Muslims do not generally believe that Muhammad will return from the dead to lead the world at the end of the age. Instead, Islamic end-times traditions commonly anticipate the appearance of the Mahdi, a righteous leader, and the return of Jesus—known in Islam as Isa.
Islam also contains the figure of al-Dajjal, a great end-times deceiver sometimes compared—carefully, because the traditions are not identical—to the Christian concept of Antichrist.
According to widespread Islamic tradition, tremendous turmoil and deception accompany these events. Jesus returns and ultimately defeats the Dajjal.
But there is an enormous theological difference that must not be overlooked.
Islam’s Jesus is not understood the way Christianity understands Jesus.
Christianity declares Jesus to be the Son of God, the crucified and risen Savior and the only way to the Father. Islam rejects crucial parts of those Christian claims.
The KJV declares:
John 3:16 — KJV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…”
And Jesus said:
John 14:6 — KJV
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Therefore, simply saying “both Christians and Muslims expect Jesus to return” can hide an enormous difference. They use the same name while holding profoundly different beliefs about who Jesus actually is and what His return means.
Now Put the Three Expectations Beside Each Other
Step back for a moment and look at the remarkable picture.
Christian expectation: Jesus Christ returns. Before His ultimate victory, Scripture warns of extraordinary deception, Antichrist and the False Prophet.
Traditional Jewish expectation: the Messiah is still to come, bringing redemption and the messianic age.
Islamic expectation: the Mahdi appears, Jesus returns, the Dajjal deceives humanity and is ultimately defeated.
Three religions.
Three end-times frameworks.
Multiple anticipated figures.
Expectations of turmoil.
Expectations of deception.
Expectations of dramatic changes involving the world and, in different ways, the Middle East.
And expectations that someone is coming.
But according to the KJV, this creates an enormous warning.
Jesus Warned Us That the End Times Would Be Filled With Deception
When Jesus’ disciples asked Him about His coming and the end of the world, notice the very first warning He gave them:
Matthew 24:4–5 — KJV
“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
Later He intensified the warning:
Matthew 24:24 — KJV
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
That means Christians should never identify a religious leader as being from God merely because he brings peace, performs remarkable signs, attracts enormous crowds or appears to fulfill someone’s expectations.
Miracles alone will not be enough.
Popularity will not be enough.
Peace agreements will not be enough.
Religious claims will not be enough.
The question must always be:
Does this person agree with the Jesus Christ already revealed in Scripture?
Could Different Religions Interpret the Same Future Person Differently?
This is where we must be especially careful.
It can be tempting for Christian prophecy students to create a neat chart declaring that the Jewish Messiah, Islamic Mahdi and biblical Antichrist will definitely all be the same individual.
The KJV does not explicitly tell us that.
Neither should we claim that Islamic prophecies are simply another version of biblical prophecy. They come from different religious sources and contain important contradictions.
But there is a legitimate question worth considering.
What would happen if an extraordinarily persuasive world leader appeared during a period of tremendous international crisis?
What if he promised peace?
What if he became deeply involved with Israel and the Middle East?
What if religious communities interpreted him through their own prophetic expectations?
What if supernatural signs accompanied the movement surrounding him?
Different religions could conceivably look at the same world events and interpret them in completely different ways.
And that possibility makes Jesus’ warning about deception incredibly important.
The Christian Has One Enormous Advantage
According to the KJV, Christians do not need to guess who Jesus will be when He returns.
We already know Him.
The Jesus who returns is the same Jesus who left.
Acts 1:11 — KJV
“…this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
That phrase is powerful:
“THIS SAME JESUS.”
Not another Messiah.
Not a charismatic substitute.
Not someone claiming to have finally discovered the real truth about Christ.
Not a political leader promising to save civilization.
Not someone whose miraculous signs supposedly prove that Scripture must be rewritten.
This same Jesus.
The One who died for our sins.
The One who rose from the grave.
The One who said:
John 10:27–28 — KJV
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life…”
Perhaps the Greatest End-Times Question Is Not “When?”
Christians can spend enormous amounts of time watching wars, Israel, Iran, earthquakes, economic developments, peace negotiations and world leaders. Those things can certainly cause us to study prophecy more carefully.
But Jesus repeatedly brought the question back to something much more personal:
Are you ready?
Matthew 24:44 — KJV
“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
The extraordinary thing is that Christianity, Judaism and Islam all contain expectations that history is moving toward tremendous events. Each anticipates figures associated with those events. Each contains expectations of struggle between truth and deception, justice and wickedness, followed by dramatic change.
But Christianity makes a uniquely personal claim:
The One who is coming is the same One who has already come.
His name is Jesus Christ.
And according to the KJV, our preparation for His return does not begin by correctly identifying every geopolitical event.
It begins by knowing Him.
Because when the counterfeits eventually appear, the safest person will not necessarily be the person who has memorized the most prophecy charts.
It will be the person who already knows the true Christ well enough not to follow another.
I sit in amazement that I am actually part of this spectacular time in history. To see things from a “front row seat.”
I thank God for helping me see through the deception that has been in my life, through the false teachings of a life long religion. He was the one that has brought me to where I am today.
This blessing has also allowed me to see the other deceptions that are happening. Through the guidance of TRUE Prophet’s writings, recorded in the Bible, I have learned what is coming regarding the end times. God has provided this information to KEEP us from being deceived.
I am also aware of the tremendous spiritual risk that many are still exposed to by following a false prophet, and will do ANYTHING that he asks them to do. They are heavily trapped in the nets of deception, and are at a very high risk of accepting the mark of the beast, and losing their very souls by following this evil leader, who will soon immerge.
My prayer is that everyone of you who is reading this writing today make one solemn commitment…To Follow GOD, and not follow any man or leader during this very deceptive time on earth.
If your spiritual leader, or EVEN I, share something that gives you pause to question what has been said or written, let GOD BE YOUR FINAL AUTHORITY! Take these things to HIM for guidance.
And finally, a fimilure phrase… “We speak to God through Prayer, He speaks to us through Scripture.” TEST EVERYTHING through HIS scriptures. These scriptures are only found in the Bible.
The Bible is the standard by which other religious claims must be tested. A religious tradition, prophecy, vision, angelic visitation, or later sacred writing should not be placed alongside Scripture simply because someone claims divine authority for it.
The KJV gives strong principles for this:
2 Timothy 3:16–17 — KJV
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
Isaiah 8:20 — KJV
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
And perhaps most importantly when comparing Christianity with other religions who claim that they have NEW Scripture and NEW gospel teachings, Paul warned us…
Galatians 1:8 — KJV
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
There isn’t any NEW Scripture, NOR NEW Gospel in addition to what Jesus and His apostles taught. Nott even an angel has the authority to CHANGE the gospel that Jesus taught. Jesus Came down to the earth to teach us the Gospel of Jesus Christ. What He taught is complete, and as He claimed…”It is Finished!”
John 19:30 — KJV
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
Those three words—“It is finished”—are incredibly powerful. Jesus had completed the work He came to earth to accomplish. To atone for the sins of mankind, and to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Christ did not say, “I have done my part; now you must complete the rest through religious works and ordinances.” He did not say, “I have given you part of the gospel of Jesus Christ, more will come later.” He said, “IT IS FINISHED.”
Salvation rests upon the completed work of Jesus Christ, received by grace through faith: “For by grace are ye saved through faith… Not of works” (Ephesians 2:8–9 KJV). Jesus taught His Gospel completely, entrusted that Gospel to His apostles, and never taught that His saving Gospel would disappear from the earth and later need to be restored, revised, or completed by another man.
If you believe otherwise, you have just given yourself a great place to start untangling the deception that you have been exposed to.
But what if the learning the TRUTH changes things in my social setting, or disrupts my family? My church has been “Tradition” for generations.
A better question would be,
“Why wouldn’t I learn the truth that will help me ensure that me and my family do not end up further deceived that might cost us our very souls?”
And another telling question that you should ask,
“Why is my church leader, who claims to be a prophet of God, remaining silent and NOT be warning us of what is coming?”
You are very aware of this scripture:
Amos 3:7 (KJV)
“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”
God will not pass judgment upon this earth unless He first reveals His secrets to His servants the prophets. And, He did EXACTLY this when He revealed the NUMEROUS end times prophecies which are recorded by HIS prophets, as written in the bible.
There is NO VALID reason that a prophet of God would not be teaching his “church membership” all of these end-times prophecies that have already been given to us by TRUE PROPHETS, thousands of years ago.
However, there is a reason that he would not be sharing these prophecies… that reason… DECEPTION! The less you know, the easier that you are to be deceived.
Seriously, the only question that remains is, “When will some people wake up, and realize that they are heavily entangled in religious deception?” As each day goes by, the odds of that person waking up diminishes, and we know full well where the current is carrying them.
“To reach the safety of the shore, one must swim against the current. Drifting is easy, but will carry you wherever the world is going; far away from the peace and safety of a loving Father.”
There has never been such an important time, as there is right now. Jesus Christ will be returning to rescue all of those who are “in Christ” from the upcoming Final Seven Years on Earth. Do you have your ticket? Will you be included in this rescue?
If you have no idea what I am even referring to, I pray that you will hit your knees, and ask God to immediately direct you to the truth of what I am teaching. You will NOT find it through your church, but you WILL find it through HIM! I encourage you to NOT waste one more minute, and ask God RIGHT NOW!
