I Get It – You’re Tired of This Life and Are LONGING to Return Home. Let’s Walk This Path Together (KJV)

You have had enough…ENOUGH of this mortal life; ENOUGH of the evil that is on the earth today; and ENOUGH of being separated from your HOME, living with Jesus Christ. You feel a deep longing to return to something that once was…Something that you can remember, yet feel like you know quite well. You’re not alone in that longing; it’s actually a biblical sentiment echoed by some of the most faithful people in Scripture.

The apostle Paul put it plainly in a couple of places that resonate strongly here:

  • In Philippians 1:23, he says he’s torn between continuing his work on earth and his desire: “I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far.”
  • In 2 Corinthians 5:2–8, he describes believers as groaning in these “earthly tents” (our bodies and this fallen world), longing to be “clothed” with our heavenly dwelling instead. He even says we’d “rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

That groaning isn’t a sign of weak faith—it’s often a mark of mature faith, a recognition that this world, with its pain, sin, injustice, and frustrations, isn’t our ultimate home. Scripture affirms that God has “set eternity in the human heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11), so we feel out of place here because we’re made for something more perfect: unbroken fellowship with Him, no more tears, death, or suffering (Revelation 21:4). Can you feel this in your own life? I certainly can!

Many Christians today express exactly this—tired of the earth’s struggles and yearning for the rapture or Christ’s return as the moment we finally go “home.” It’s often called the “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), and that hope can bring real comfort amid the fatigue.

At the same time, the Bible balances that longing with purpose while we’re still here:

  • We’re called to live as ambassadors of Christ’s kingdom (2 Corinthians 5:20), loving others, sharing the gospel, and doing good works God prepared in advance (Ephesians 2:10).
  • Jesus Himself prayed not that we’d be taken out of the world right away, but that we’d be protected in it and set apart for truth (John 17:15–17).
  • The tension is real: we can long for home without disengaging from the mission. Paul kept pressing on despite his desire to depart, because there was fruitful labor left (Philippians 1:22).

If the weariness feels overwhelming right now—whether from personal trials, global chaos, or just the cumulative weight—lean into the One who invites the weary and burdened to find rest in Him (Matthew 11:28–30). Talk to Him about it honestly; pour out the tiredness. He understands, and His Spirit groans with us in ways words can’t express (Romans 8:26).

That home you’re longing for is real, it’s certain for those in Christ, and it’s closer than we think. Until then, may God strengthen you day by day, renew your inner self even as the outer wears down (2 Corinthians 4:16), and give glimpses of His presence that make the waiting a little more bearable. You’re not stuck here forever—home is coming. Hang in there, brother/sister. God will grant you the strength and patience to continue.
