When Israel became a nation on May 14, 1948, something extraordinary happened. After nearly 2,000 years of dispersion, the Jewish people were restored to their ancient homeland — just as the prophets had foretold. This was not a random act of history; it was a prophetic milestone that Jesus Himself said would mark the final generation before His return.
The Fig Tree Blossoms Again
In Matthew 24, Jesus’ disciples asked Him what signs would precede His coming and the end of the world. Among His answers was a profound parable:
“Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.”
— Matthew 24:32–34 (KJV)
Throughout Scripture, the fig tree often represents Israel (see Hosea 9:10, Jeremiah 24, Joel 1:7). When Jesus spoke of the fig tree budding again, He was referring to the rebirth of the nation of Israel. After centuries of exile, persecution, and dispersion, Israel “put forth leaves” again in 1948.
This was the moment Jesus told us to watch for — the sign that His return is near, even at the doors.
“This Generation Shall Not Pass”
Jesus declared that the generation which witnesses Israel’s rebirth “shall not pass” until all end-time prophecies are fulfilled — including His Second Coming.
The Psalmist gives us insight into what a “generation” might mean:
“The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years…”
— Psalm 90:10 (KJV)
A biblical generation is commonly understood as 70 to 80 years. Counting from 1948, we are now well within that window of time — 2018 to 2028 – a sobering thought for any believer watching the signs of the times.
To Those Stating – “Even People Living Hundreds of Years Ago, thought that They were Living in the End Times”
This is a phrase that is heard quite often. My question to these believers is, “How much time have you spent studying the Bible in your lifetime?” The answer… “Not Much!”
I find it ironic that some people can claim to have an understanding of the end times, even to the point of correcting others, when they have little, if any time spent studying the event that they profess to be an educator of. “No man knows the date nor the hour,” seems to be another phrase that is tossed out often, portraying such limited informed knowledge.
The end times prophecies are not just one scripture, or one chapter. These prophetic “Pieces” of the end times are given to us to be included with all of the other prophecies that God has given to us in the Bible. There are far too many people who want to just read one very detailed scripture to know exactly what will happen and when.
And, as you can see through the above scriptures, it gives us an anchor point to attach to the timeline, to give us the season of Christ’s return.
The Importance of Study
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
This is the clearest invitation. God calls us to study—not just read casually—so we can understand and apply His truth correctly.
Additional Prophetic Events Unfolding
Since Israel’s rebirth, we’ve seen prophetic events accelerate:
- Jerusalem restored to Jewish control in 1967, fulfilling Luke 21:24.
- The global alignment of nations resembling Ezekiel’s prophecy (Ezekiel 38–39).
- Growing talk of a seven-year peace plan, echoing Daniel 9:27, Currently in the works.
- Increasing moral decay, natural disasters, and lawlessness — all signs Jesus warned would intensify before His return (Matthew 24:6–12).
Every prophetic puzzle piece seems to be falling into place in our generation.
The Call to Watch and Be Ready
The Lord gave these signs not to create fear, but to stir faith and readiness among His followers.
“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”
— Matthew 24:42 (KJV)
Israel’s miraculous restoration is the clearest proof that God’s Word is true and that Jesus is coming soon. The same God who gathered His people back to their land is soon to gather His Church to Himself.
Conclusion
When Israel became a nation again in 1948, the prophetic clock began ticking louder than ever. The fig tree has blossomed, and Jesus’ words echo through time:
“This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.”
Our Savior’s return is not a distant dream; it is a soon-coming reality. As we see these signs unfolding, may we lift up our heads in hope — for our redemption draweth nigh (Luke 21:28).
I have a profound love for the words that are written in the Bible. A modern day “e-mail” from Jesus Christ and His prophets directly to us for the purpose of guidance in these last days.
I invite you all to open your “Inbox” today. Is it filled with un-responded emails from these prophets, or have you found the value and insight that these scriptures can bring? I believe with my audience, you too have found the scriptures to be an important part of your spiritual development and learning. I applaud you for this, and have great respect for you!
I am very aware of the news headlines of the day, describing the difficult times that we are currently in. Yet I have since learned today something so disheartening:
Survey data Pew Research Center: ~39% of U.S. adults say they believe humanity is living in the end times.
How can anyone on planet earth right now not know that we are living in the last days? This finding however is also an indication of how many people either study or are taught by someone that studies the prophecies of the end times.
Did you know that the Jewish people, as well as the Muslim Religions, have end times prophecies that somewhat line up with the prophecies of the bible. They have different “Actors” but a similar “Story” of the end of days.
More Statistical Data
2012 ~36% of U.S. adults said that they believed humanity was living in the end times.
So, since 2012, only 3% of the population of the United States has had a change of mind, and now feel that we are living in the end times.
I do find some comfort in seeing the actual number that 3% represents:
340,000,000×0.03=10,200,000
Ten Million, Two Hundred Thousand, is a substantial number. I hope that many of these people represented, are those who have given their life to Jesus Christ. Still, more than half of the US population are clueless regarding the time period that we are in, and seem to be “low hanging fruit” for the antichrist to come in and deceive them. =(
I have made this blog private due to some disrespectful comments from others, who I felt have tarnished the word of God. However, I also feel after writhing this article, that there are still so many people who need help in realizing the prophetic time period that we are in.
I have since learned a way to eliminate such comments from appearing on the site, and because of this, I am opening up the blog again for anyone to access. I encourage comments, but would hope that they are not disrespectful to our God. For those of you who are filled with hate toward the goodness of God, I prayerfully invite you to see the love and future that He can give to you, rather than the dark period that you are currently in. Thank you.

Thank You for this encouraging post.
I have a question about the “generation”…the same question I’ve always had but have been afraid to ask…
when, exactly, did that “generation” start ? does it mean those who were born in 1948 ? or what about 1949 (like myself) ? what about those who were already alive in 1948 ?
the generation that sees the rebirth of Israel…does that mean anyone who was alive in 1948 ? and only that generation ?

That’s an excellent and thoughtful question. Let’s take a moment to look at the purpose of this scripture. Jesus’ words were never meant to help us calculate exact dates, but to remind us that the same generation which witnessed Israel’s rebirth will still be alive when He returns.
In other words, God’s Word is sure — history will not continue indefinitely. We are living in the very prophetic season Jesus described.
It’s also important to understand that these verses are not a personal forecast of lifespan, nor a promise that specific individuals will live to see the Savior’s return. Rather, they are symbolic — showing that from the time Israel became a nation until the return of Jesus Christ will mark one prophetic generation of time. I hope this information is helpful.

thanks again…that makes much more sense than the way I was looking at it…sometimes, in our eagerness, we can’t see the forest for the trees. ❤️👍😊
