Bombs Exploded Today in Damasks – Are We Close to the Prophecy in Isaiah 17:1 Being Fulfilled? (KJV)

For those watching end times prophecies closely, many are focused on the following words from Isaiah:

Isaiah 17:1 (KJV)

“The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.”

This is one of the clearest scriptures about the total destruction of Damascus. Damasks is one of the oldest know cities, and has been targeted many times during conflicts. However, TOTAL Destruction has never occurred causing it not to be able to function as a city. So, in spite of all of the destruction in Damascus, this prophecy has not yet been fulfilled.

So where does this prophecy fit into the end times prophecies? It was bombed today; however, it was not totally destroyed as the prophecies teaches. Who will likely be the nation that destroys damasks? Will it happen NOW as a result of the ongoing war between Israel and Iran?

Below is a timeline that flushes out some additional information that might answer some of these questions:

End-Times Damascus Prophecy Timeline

StageScripture ReferenceDescriptionModern Indicators / Notes
1. Rising Regional TensionsIsaiah 17:1 (Burden of Damascus)Damascus faces growing instability and vulnerability.Missile strikes in Damascus, Iranian-Israeli conflicts, and internal Syrian instability signal rising threats.
2. Formation of Northern CoalitionEzekiel 38:1-6 (Gog & Magog)A northern alliance forms against Israel, including Persia (Iran), Cush, Put, and possibly Russia (Rosh).Russia-Iran military alignment, support of proxies in Syria and Lebanon, regional coalitions forming.
3. The Invasion of Israel / Trigger EventEzekiel 38:7-8Gog’s coalition invades Israel “in the latter years,” triggering God’s intervention.Recent Middle East conflicts, missile exchanges, and preparation of military alliances may be precursors.
4. Destruction of DamascusIsaiah 17:1-3Damascus becomes “a ruinous heap,” uninhabitable and destroyed.Biblical prophecy predicts total destruction; analysts associate this with northern coalition movement and divine judgment.
5. God’s Intervention / TribulationEzekiel 38:18-23; Revelation 16-19God intervenes with judgment on invading armies, natural disasters, and global upheaval.Escalating conflicts, wars, and supernatural signs as foretold in scripture.
6. Post-Damascus EraIsaiah 17:2Cities near Damascus (e.g., Hamath) may also face ruin; the region will be depopulated and desolate.Syria remains unstable, humanitarian crises, depopulation of conflict zones.

Key Notes

  1. Who destroys Damascus?

Prophecy doesn’t credit a modern nation-state as the agent. It is part of divine judgment linked to Gog and Magog’s invasion, often interpreted as Russia and allied northern nations with Middle Eastern partners.

  1. Timing with the Tribulation

The destruction of Damascus occurs before or during the 7-year Tribulation. Current events (Iran-Israel clashes, missile strikes in Damascus) may indicate that the region is entering the prophetic “pressure stage,” but full destruction is not immediate.

So, when does the Gog and Magog War Begin?

The Gog and Magog war described in Ezekiel 38–39 is a pivotal end-times conflict that occurs after Israel has been restored and is dwelling in relative peace. Ezekiel 38:11 emphasizes that Israel will be

“dwelling safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,”

indicating a time of security and unpreparedness. This period of false security is a key prophetic marker, signaling that the northern coalition led by Gog—a leader from the land of Magog, allied with Persia (modern Iran), Cush, Put, and other nations—will launch an unexpected invasion.

The timing is explicitly described as “in the latter years” (Ezekiel 38:8), which scholars interpret as shortly before or at the beginning of the seven-year Tribulation, when God’s judgment begins to intensify in the world.

To me, “Israel dwelling in a relative peaceful period” is a very telling sign regarding the start of the God and Magog war, which includes the destruction of Damasks.

We can say with certainty that Israel does not qualify as being in a peaceful state right now. This then places the current conflict with Iran and Israel under the end times prophecy heading of “Wars and rumors of wars,” and NOT the beginning of the Gog and Magog war.

Matthew 24:6–7 (KJV)

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.”

So, Who will Likely Bring this Peace to Israel Mentioned in Ezekiel?

According to biblical prophecy, it is very likely that the Antichrist will appear as a peacemaker for Israel just before the Gog and Magog war, though this peace is ultimately deceptive. Here’s why:

Scriptural Basis

  • Daniel 9:27 (KJV) – “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease.”

Many scholars interpret this “he” as the Antichrist, who will make a covenant of peace with Israel for a short period, often thought to be the first half of the seven-year Tribulation.

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:3 – “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child…”

This shows that the world, and Israel in particular, will experience a false sense of security just before the Tribulation intensifies.

Prophetic Sequence

  1. Israel seeks peace after years of instability and threats from surrounding nations.
  2. The Antichrist presents himself as a solution, making a covenant of protection and stability.
  3. This peace is temporary and deceptive, providing the conditions for Gog and Magog (Ezekiel 38–39) to later invade, believing Israel is vulnerable.
  4. God intervenes supernaturally during the Gog and Magog war, revealing that true security comes only from Him, not from human or demonic leaders.

Summary

Yes, prophecy strongly suggests that the Antichrist will broker a peace agreement with Israel before the Gog and Magog invasion. But this peace is short-lived and serves his deception, setting the stage for the northern coalition’s attack and the full outpouring of God’s judgment during the Tribulation.

Can it get any clearer than this for us? If the antichrist is the one that will bring “peace” to Israel allowing for end times prophecy to begin, this also tells us that the rapture is very imminent. God needs to remove the restrainer, (His spirit that is withing all of His followers on the earth), before the antichrist can be presented on the world stage. And, things are progressing towards this occurring very soon.

I have recently written about the Feast of Trumpets in 2026 being a High Watch date for the rapture, but I honestly feel that the rapture could actually occur at any time now.

When I see all of what is happening surrounding Israel right now, and the talk of peace, or ending this current war, if that broker of peace is the antichrist, then we are out of here very soon via the rapture. I must also tell you that this also feels correct in my “spirit.” What is God telling you? I’m interested to hear what all of you are feeling. Please include your thoughts in the comments.
