Why Do I Feel Afraid in These Last Days? That Fear is Telling You Something – Get Rid of it Today! (KJV)

February 9, 2026 | www.gospelofjesuschrist.blog | River Wilde

If Jesus Christ truly paid it all—if the debt of sin is finished, settled, and fully satisfied—then why do so many sincere believers still live with fear?

Fear of not doing enough. Fear of falling away. Fear of judgment. Fear of missing something God requires.

This question is not a sign of weak faith. It is often the first sign that the Holy Spirit is waking someone up.

“It is finished.”
John 19:30 (KJV)

When Jesus spoke those words, He did not say “It is started” or “It is paid in installments.” He declared the work complete.

So where does the fear come from?

Fear Does Not Come From the Gospel

The gospel of Jesus Christ produces peace, not fear.

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5:1 (KJV)

If peace is absent, something has been added to the gospel. Since the pure gospel of Jesus Christ produces peace, if fear is involved, it must be because an additional requirement has been added to Christ’s gospel. Let me give you an example, (a common one):

If you have been taught that you will be “burned at His coming, if you are not a full tithe payer,” your focus shifts to your own WORKS… Have I done enough? Doubt and fear come as a result of our assessment to this question. This is not what the gospel of Jesus Christ teaches. It has been ADDED incorrectly to the gospel, and should not even be considered. How can I say this?

“For by grace are ye saved through faithnot of works.”
— Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)

Fear enters when salvation is subtly shifted from:

  • Christ’s finished work
  • to human performance

The moment salvation becomes maintained by effort, fear becomes unavoidable, for we are never good enough. If it were up to us, we could NEVER earn our way into heaven, it is only because of Jesus Christ that we are saved from sin, and weakness.

Fear Thrives Where Grace Is Mixed With Conditions

Many believers are taught grace in theory, but works in practice.

Statements like:

  • “Christ paid it all… but you must remain worthy”
  • “Grace saves you… but obedience keeps you safe”
  • “Jesus forgives… but access to God requires ongoing qualification”

These ideas contradict Scripture. Sadly, this is what some “Christian” church teach.

“Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”
Galatians 3:3 (KJV)

Fear is the natural result of trying to finish in the flesh what only Christ could complete. We can never be enough to make it on our own. Trying to accomplish salvation on our own simply means that we have not accepted the grace of salvation which Jesus Christ has provided to us as a gift. Understanding this will immediately release all of the fear that you have. You trust in HIM, not yourselves.

Fear Is a Tool of Spiritual Control

Fear keeps people compliant. Fear keeps people silent. Fear keeps people dependent on systems rather than the Savior. A simple test…Does the gospel that your church teaches set you free, or does it provide additional boxes to check in order to be good enough?

Scripture is clear about the source of that fear.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

If fear is being used to motivate obedience, loyalty, or giving, it is not coming from God.

Christ Did Not Leave You on Probation

When Christ saves, He saves completely.

“For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”
Hebrews 10:14 (KJV)

Notice the language:

  • One offering
  • Perfected
  • For ever

Fear persists when believers are taught that they are only conditionally secure. But Scripture teaches assurance, not anxiety.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:1 (KJV)

No condemnation means no looming threat.

Fear Often Signals Babylon, Not Backsliding

When believers feel constant fear despite sincere devotion, the problem is often the system, not the soul.

This is why God says:

“Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins.”
Revelation 18:4 (KJV)

God’s people are often still inside systems that mix truth with fear. Leaving fear-based religion is not rebellion—it is obedience to the voice of Christ.

Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Fear and love cannot rule the heart at the same time.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.”
1 John 4:18 (KJV)

If fear is tormenting you, it is signaling the realization of a false gospel.

The love of Christ brings rest.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

Rest is not laziness. It is trust.

The Answer to the Question

Why do I still feel afraid if Christ paid it all?

Because somewhere along the way:

  • Christ’s sufficiency was replaced with human effort
  • Grace was diluted with conditions
  • Assurance was traded for control

The cure is not trying harder. The cure is returning to the simplicity of the gospel.

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”
— Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)

He authored it. He finished it. He did not hand it back to you to maintain through fear.

A Word of Hope

If this question is stirring in your heart, take courage. Fear is often the final chain to fall before freedom.

Christ really did pay it all. And where He reigns, fear has no authority.

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:36 (KJV)

It all begins by studying the gospel that Jesus taught when He was on the earth. Studying this truth will help you identify some of the untruths that you might have been taught, that are producing anxiety for you right now. An important place to start is with this concept:

“Saved by Grace, and not our own works.”

It is through the grace of our Savior Jesus Christ that we can be made “perfect” and free from all sin. That is His gift, and has nothing to do with our good works. We do not earn salvation through our efforts; it is a gift from Christ.

We can stop trying to earn our way into heaven, for that is not how this works. Our good works are the “FRUIT” of accepting Jesus into our life, not the root of the tree. We live a Christ-like life, NOT because it is REQUIRED of us, but because of who we have become, as we partner up with the Savior.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:32 (KJV)

What is “the truth”?

Jesus answers that just a few verses later. He is not talking about information, facts, or religious knowledge.

He says:

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:36 (KJV)

So, the truth is not a system.
The truth is a Person — Jesus Christ.

Knowing the truth means:

  • Knowing who Christ really is
  • Knowing what He actually finished
  • Knowing you are no longer a slave

Free from what?

In the same chapter, Jesus explains the bondage:

“Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”
— John 8:34 (KJV)

But this slavery goes deeper than behavior. Truth frees us from:

  • Fear of judgment
  • Fear of not doing enough
  • Fear of losing God’s acceptance
  • Fear used to control obedience

That’s why fear and freedom cannot coexist.

How truth makes you free

Not by trying harder.
Not by proving worthiness.
Not by loyalty to an institution.

Freedom comes when you rest in this truth:

“It is finished.”
— John 19:30 (KJV)

When the work is finished, fear has no legal ground.

Let your fear serve a purpose today. Use it as a motivation to seek the TRUE gospel that Jesus Christ taught, recorded in the New TestamentNOTHING ELSE.

If you make this your primary book of learning, you will begin to recognize all of the previous untruths that have been taught by “Men,” under the heading of Jesus Christ. And interestingly enough, you will see that it is these untruths that are producing the fear that you are having in these last days.

It is my prayer that you will begin to hear the promptings of the Holy Ghost, calling you to seek the truth in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have learned that the veil of deception is lifting in these last days…are you beginning to see these untruths for yourself. If so, it is your time. God is calling all of His children home soon, and will reveal all truth prior to the rapture of Jesus Christ.

  1. As a born again believer in Christ, I have no fear of the coming Tribulation or Judgement. I’m so looking forward to being with my Lord and Savior. I have to admit, though, I am fearful and concerned about my loved ones who aren’t walking with the Lord or who haven’t trusted in Jesus Christ fully for forgiveness and eternal life.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I can help you with this…Sometimes we think that it is all up to us to prepare people for the end times. I’ve learned personally, that the part we play is so small. God has a plan already in place. He is leading people to Christ even as we speak by revealing truth to the earth. This will help many people come to Christ. Then for those who miss the rapture, there is still the second step in God’s plan which is to bring many to Christ using “Tough Love” which is the Tribulation period. “Stubborn” ones will see this method effective while still keeping free agency intact. I know that many that we are worried about will make it. Their current status might be affected through pride or immaturity, but God has a plan for that. I invite you to keep the prayers going for those that you care about, and then TRUST GOD FULLY. He may prompt you to occasionally intervene, and he might not. Their coming to the light of Christ might just solely be through the Holy Ghost. Hope this helps. =)

      1. Thank you. It does help. Ultimately, I do trust God completely and realize He loves my relatives even more than I do and is faithfully at work in their lives to bring them to salvation. Thanks again for your encouraging messages.
