There is an emotion sweeping across the country right now…FEAR! With all of the chaos in the world today, FEAR seems to be a common emotion that many people are experiencing.
The solution to eliminate fear has always been to remove the thing that a person is afraid of, thus eliminating the fear all together. But is there something more to the emotion of FEAR? Something that I would like to share with you that places the emotion of fear into an entirely different category.
Where does fear come from? Knowing this might just be more important than you thought, in managing your fears:
Fear Does Not Come From God
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Fear is not from God.
God gives power, love, and a sound mind, not fear.
Sources of Fear According to Scripture
1. Fear Comes From the Flesh (Our Human Nature)
Romans 8:15 (KJV)
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption…”
Fear is connected to bondage, not freedom.
2. Fear Comes From the Devil
Hebrews 2:14–15 (KJV)
“…that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Satan uses fear—especially fear of death—to control people.
3. Fear Comes From What We See, Not What We Trust
Psalm 56:3 (KJV)
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
Fear arises when our focus shifts from God to circumstances.
4. Fear Comes From Unbelief
Matthew 8:26 (KJV)
“Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?”
Fear grows when faith weakens.
God’s Answer to Fear
Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
1 John 4:18 (KJV)
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear…”
Fear cannot survive where God’s love is trusted.
God Commands Us Not to Fear
Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee…”
Peace Comes From Trusting God
John 14:27 (KJV)
“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Summary (KJV Truth)
- Fear does not come from God
- Fear comes from the flesh, the devil, unbelief, and focusing on circumstances
- Faith, love, and truth drive fear away
Psalm 118:6 (KJV)
The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
