The Two Witnesses: God’s Final Prophets to a Dying World

Posted November 9, 2025 | End Times Watch | River Wilde

Few prophecies in Scripture stir as much mystery and anticipation as the appearance of the Two Witnesses. These two powerful prophets will emerge during the darkest time in human history—the Great Tribulation—as God’s final voice to a rebellious world. Their ministry will divide nations, call Israel to repentance, and stand as living proof that the Lord still reigns over His creation.

The Prophecy in the KJV

The Book of Revelation gives us the most detailed description of these men:

“And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.”
Revelation 11:3 (KJV)

Their ministry will last 1,260 days—exactly three and a half years, corresponding to the first half of the seven-year Tribulation. Their message will be one of repentance, warning, and truth in the face of global deception led by the Antichrist.

Their Location: Jerusalem

Revelation 11:8 makes their location clear:

“And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”
Revelation 11:8 (KJV)

The phrase “where also our Lord was crucified” points unmistakably to Jerusalem. It is in this city—long the center of God’s dealings with mankind—that these two prophets will testify. Jerusalem will once again become the world’s spiritual battleground.

Their Power and Purpose

The Two Witnesses will be anointed with supernatural power to confront evil.

“These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.”
Revelation 11:6 (KJV)

Their powers mirror those of two great Old Testament prophets:

  • Elijah, who shut the heavens so that it did not rain (1 Kings 17:1), and
  • Moses, who turned water into blood and brought plagues upon Egypt (Exodus 7–12).

Their purpose will be threefold:

  1. To call Israel and the world to repentance.
As the world embraces the Antichrist and rejects God, the Two Witnesses will cry out for people to turn back to the Creator before it’s too late.
  2. To confront and expose evil.
They will publicly oppose the lies of the Antichrist, his false prophet, and the growing one-world religious system.
  3. To prepare for Christ’s return.
Their testimony will culminate in a global confrontation between truth and deception, paving the way for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Who Are They?

While Scripture doesn’t name them, Bible scholars have long debated their identities. The two most likely possibilities, based on biblical patterns, are:

1. Moses and Elijah

  • Both appeared with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew 17:3), representing the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah).
  • Both performed miracles that match those described in Revelation 11.
  • Malachi 4:5–6 prophesies Elijah’s return:

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.”

  • Moses’ body was never found (Deuteronomy 34:5–6), suggesting God preserved him for a future purpose.

2. Elijah and Enoch

  • Both were translated (taken to heaven) without dying (Genesis 5:24; 2 Kings 2:11).
  • Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed unto men once to die,” implying they may return to experience physical death during the Tribulation.
  • This interpretation sees them as the only two men in human history who have yet to face death.

While both theories carry weight, Elijah’s return is certain according to prophecy. Whether his companion is Moses or Enoch, these two will stand boldly before kings and nations declaring, “Thus saith the Lord.”

Their Death and Resurrection

After 1,260 days of unstoppable preaching, the Antichrist will be permitted to kill them:

“And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.”
Revelation 11:7 (KJV)

Their bodies will lie in the streets of Jerusalem for three and a half days, watched by a mocking world through global media. People will celebrate their deaths, sending gifts to one another (Revelation 11:10). But suddenly:

And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.”
Revelation 11:11 (KJV)

Before the eyes of all nations, they will ascend to heaven in a cloud (Revelation 11:12). Immediately after, a great earthquake will strike Jerusalem—another sign that God’s hand is still upon His people and His plan will not be stopped.

Their Message to the World

The Two Witnesses will remind a deceived world that God is still in control, even in tribulation. Their courage and faith will stand as a final beacon of truth before judgment falls. They will show that God’s mercy endures even when humanity’s rebellion reaches its peak.

Final Thoughts

As the end of the age approaches, the coming of the Two Witnesses reminds believers to stand firm in faith. Just as they will not bow to the Antichrist, we must not bow to the pressures of a world that denies truth.

Their story is not only a prophecy—it is a call to readiness.
For soon, the same Christ they testify of will return in power and glory.

“Be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
Matthew 24:44 (KJV)

If you are hearing anything different regarding the identity of these two witnesses, I would caution you NOT to be deceived. For these are the writing of the Prophets and Apostles of the Bible. Let No Man deceive you, regardless of their title.

We have entered the period of history where spiritual deception will be at its highest peak. Stay firm in the words and teachings of the Bible. The antichrist along with the False Prophet will be key players in leading people away from God through their deception.

2 Thessalonians 2:9–11 (KJV)

“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.”

This shows that the falling away happens before and alongside the revealing of the Antichrist — the “man of sin.” People will abandon true faith because they will be deceived by lying wonders and false teachings.

In this verse, the Apostle Paul is warning believers about events that must take place before the Day of the Lord — the time of final judgment and Christ’s return. The “falling away” (Greek: apostasia, from which we get “apostasy”) refers to a large-scale departure from true faith. It suggests that many who once professed to follow Christ will turn away from sound doctrine, embracing false teachings, worldly values, or spiritual deception. This will be the work of the antichrist and false prophet.

Gone are the days that you listen to, and believe what a person or church tells you to be as ALL truth. You MUST always take what you are learning to God in prayer to receive a truthful conformation. This is how you will not be deceived. Do not trust your pastor, spiritual leader, nor prophet 100%.

You have the Holy Spirit, and when you hear things that do not ring true, take those teachings to God, and He will ALWAYS lead you to the truth. Following a prophet to demonstrate your faith, even though God is giving you a different personal revelation, is not commendable, it is quite simply being Gullible, and disrespectable towards God. We don’t follow and worship a church, we follow and worship our God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. Our direct connection is with Him, and does not require a church to be the “middle man.”

To those readers who have come to realize that most of their life has been a DECEPTION, I commend you for discovering the truth in such a deceptive world. Your discovery of truth vs deception will serve you well in these last days.
