When Thinking About Being Raptured Feels a Bit Frightening: Finding Peace in the Promise of Jesus

Posted November 6, 2025 | End Times Watch | River Wilde

We talk so much about the joy of heaven — the golden streets, the end of pain, the reunion with loved ones — that we sometimes forget an honest truth: many believers quietly feel nervous about it being caught up in the rapture.

Not because we doubt God’s goodness, but because heaven is unknown. It’s beyond our experience, beyond our senses, and beyond our imagination. Even strong faith can tremble a little when it comes face-to-face with eternity.

If you’ve ever felt uneasy about the physical event of the rapture — take heart. You’re not alone.

Jesus Knew We’d Need Comfort

In John 14:1–3 (KJV), Jesus said:

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Jesus didn’t just say, “I’ll send for you.” He said, I will come again and receive you unto myself. That’s personal. It’s intimate. It’s the promise of a Savior who won’t send an angel or a messenger — He’ll come Himself.

When the time comes, it won’t be like stepping into the unknown. It will feel like coming home.

Why We Feel Nervous

It’s human to fear what we can’t picture. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:12:

“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face.”

We see glimpses — not the full picture. Our minds simply can’t grasp the beauty, the peace, and the joy that await us. But that’s okay. Faith fills the gap between what we know and what we feel.

Think about it: we trust airplanes, doctors, and even GPS directions every day — yet heaven was prepared by the same Jesus who healed the sick, forgave the lost, and died for our sins. If we can trust Him here, we can trust Him there.

Heaven Is Not a Reward — It’s a Reunion

We sometimes imagine heaven as a prize for good behavior. But the Bible says otherwise. Heaven is the home Jesus promised to those who believe.

It’s not about our perfection — it’s about His grace.
It’s not about fear — it’s about love fulfilled.
And it’s not about distance — it’s about closeness.

When we arrive, it won’t feel foreign. It will feel right. Every part of our soul will finally be where it was always meant to be — in His presence.

So, if you are one that has LONGED for the rapture to occur, brining us back to our heavenly home, but are a bit anxious regarding the process, consider this:

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV):

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Fear can be replaced with “power” as we ask God for His help in overcoming any fear that we might have.

1 Corinthians 15:51–52

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound,
and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

The INSTANT that we are called up to be with Jesus in the air, our bodies will be “Transformed” (Resurrected for the dead) into a perfect state. If you struggle with anxiety here on earth, it will no longer be a challenge for you the moment that you are changed at the instant of the rapture.

I spent a big part of my professional career dealing with patients who struggled with the disabling challenge of anxiety. I’ve seen first-hand how destructive this condition can be in preventing joy from occurring, because of how anxiety gets in the way. If you are one who has this disabling condition, these words are for you.

Anxiety often grows when we dwell on “what will happen” instead of “Who holds us.” As we shift our focus from the details of the rapture, to our relationship with our Savior, we can bask in the peace that has come as a result of your relationship with Him. See this as Jesus coming to your home to pick you up for a very important date. It is personal. It is Him, with YOU.

And in this process of Him coming to you, He is coming to remove all of your mortal challenges, anxiety included!  And as stated, He will remove them immediately, quite frankly, before you are even aware of what is happening.

We can change the way we are “Self-Talking”

Old Self-Talk:
“I’m going to be flying through the air… I’m afraid of heights. Will the change hurt? Will I be alone? What if I don’t know what to do? I’m not comfortable around large crowds…”

Transformed Self-Talk:
“I’m about to behold my Savior, Jesus Christ — the One who loved me enough to die for me. In that instant, all fear will dissolve into perfect peace. He is not taking me away in fear, but welcoming me home in love. My body will be made new — free from every limitation, pain, or flaw. I will finally see Him face to face, and my first breath in eternity will be one of awe, gratitude, and joy beyond measure.”

In that moment, there will be no panic, no confusion — only peace and joy for believers.

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:7 (KJV)

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear.” — 1 John 4:18 (KJV)

It’s not about how strong your faith feels day to day — it’s about Who your faith is in. The rapture is a rescue mission. In your mind, consider this statement and stop at that, “Jesus is coming to personally rescue me”STOP THERE. It is not necessary for you to self-talk the details beyond this, for some of those details are unknown to you, and trying to “fill in” the blanks can lead to high anxiety moments for you.

We trust Jesus Christ! Therefore, we trust His plan, and know that it will be GLORIOUS…Beyond our comprehension. Let your mind spend time thinking and contemplating the love that He has for us, and His unique plan to rescue us from the evils of this world.

Being “ready” doesn’t mean living in panic; it means living in peace with Christ daily.

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.” — Titus 2:13 (KJV)

The “blessed hope” isn’t meant to terrify — it’s called blessed because it’s our joyful expectation.

Fear grows in isolation, but peace grows in prayer, worship, and community. Talk to God about your fear honestly. He already knows and understands.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

If anxiety is getting in the way of finding peace in these last days, please feel free to email me personally. I’d love to help you proceed.

And on a closing note, could I ask all of you to pray for the members of “Christ’s Church” that we all can find peace in these final days? Pray that we can have the strength necessary to combat the fiery darts that satan and his angles are firing at us. There is such POWER in prayer.

I can personally testify to you that the enemy is trying to bring us down through “Frustration” (everything I own is breaking down), as well as “Temptation.” Are you experiencing similar challenges?

Let us also pray for ourselves and families to remain strong. When we think that we can no longer hold on, remember:

Romans 16:20 (KJV)

“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”

Our God has ultimate power over satan. Trust in this scripture, for once again, God can come to your rescue. When you feel “picked on” from the enemy, it’s quite fulfilling to know that God has got your back, and will “bruise” satan. =)

Our time left to endure is short. Hold On!! God’s speed!
