How Can We Live Like Jesus Asked Us to Live? How are You Doing?

Jesus didn’t just come to die for our sins—He came to show us how to live. His words in the Bible, especially in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7 KJV), give us a clear picture of what a life that pleases God really looks like.

If you’ve ever asked yourself, “How do I live like Jesus wants me to?”—you’re not alone. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being faithful, loving, and sincere.

Here’s what the Bible teaches about how we can live like Jesus asked us to live:

1. Love God and Love Others

Jesus said the most important commandments are:

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” (Matthew 22:37)
“And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Matthew 22:39)

This is where it all begins. Love God first, and love others the way He loves us.

2. Pray Humbly and Honestly

Jesus taught us how to pray—not with big words to impress others, but with a simple heart:

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet… and pray to thy Father which is in secret.” (Matthew 6:6)

You don’t need to sound holy—you just need to be real and respectful with God.

3. Forgive Others

It’s not always easy, but Jesus made it clear:

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14)

We forgive because He forgave us. Let go of bitterness, and God will help you heal.

4. Be Honest and Pure in Heart

Jesus said:

“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8)

He cares about what’s inside us—our thoughts, our motives, our honesty. He wants us to be clean on the inside, not just look good on the outside.

5. Be the Light in a Dark World

“Ye are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14)

We’re not here to hide our faith. We are here to shine, to bring hope, truth, and love into a world that’s full of confusion and fear.

6. Don’t Worry—Trust God

Jesus said:

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” (Matthew 6:34)

When we follow Jesus, we don’t have to live in fear. He takes care of His children. Trust Him, day by day.

7. Build Your Life on Jesus’ Words

Jesus told a story about two builders—one wise and one foolish. The wise man built on the rock. The foolish man built on sand. Then the storm came…

“And the rain descended… and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” (Matthew 7:25)

Jesus is that Rock. If we build our lives on His words, we can stand strong, even when everything around us falls apart.

What Does It Really Mean to Live Like Jesus?

It means:

  • Loving like He did
  • Speaking truth in kindness
  • Helping those in need
  • Trusting God above everything
  • Staying faithful—even when it’s hard

It’s not about religion—it’s about a real relationship with Jesus. He said:

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

That’s what it means to live like Jesus asked us to live.

We won’t always get it right. But when we fall, He lifts us up. When we’re weak, His strength is enough. And when we follow Him, we’re walking the narrow path that leads to life.

Jesus still invites us today:
“Come, follow Me.”

Will you say yes?
